Rocking distributer rotor 4.2

Anyone ever have a distributer rotor rock on the shaft of the motorcraft distributer? I've done the up grade to the larger cap and rotor. However, even after replacing the distributer, I have the same issue. Even tried 3 different rotors. Anyone have a suggestion?

Those taller rotors on the Motorcraft distributor modification do seem a bit loose. I would hope that top spring pressure would hold it down and when running the turning under load would hold it in a fixed position. When I put mine on it did make for a smoother running engine.

Try a small square if alum. foil over the top of the dizzy's shaft and push the rotor in place.
You want the foil encased 100% in the rotor's base with none exposed. I have found about 1 1/4" dia round works pretty well.
You'll have to replace the foil with each R&R of the rotor.

It's not worn distubutor bushings?

Mine got so bad the cap cracked.

Thanks for the replies.... Tried all the posted suggestions prior to posting this question. I was hoping for something new. I guess this is how manufacturers figure acceptable tolerances.

Here's a thought. Is there a spring pin in the top of the cap? Is it possible that the rotor is actually stable when the cap is in place?

I'm going to have to take a closer look.... As I remember it appeared that the rotor was striking the bottom of the posts. I used foil tape around the distributer shaft to create a solid base for the rotor. Guess I'll have to shovel some snow to take a look.

Sounds like you have the wrong parts, maybe.
