Hello from SE Oklahoma! There is a lot knowledge on here and I really need some at this point. Bear with me. 1978 CJ5 , AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , T-150 , Dana 20 , AMC20 , Dana 30 . Stock no lift. I have replaced damn near everything that rotates and I have this Damn squeak, squeak, squeak from underneath. Before you say "angry sparrows", here's the deal. I jacked up the rear of the jeep, wheels off ground and emplaced jack stands on the tubes, Backed up with 3 ton jack on Differential housing, backed up with bottle jacks under frame....see where I'm going here? safe....moving on. New drum brakes and shoes, spin wheels...no squeak, New Tom Woods drive shaft with new u joints, Did a complete reseal of Dana 20 and T-150 , new clutch kit. Changed pinion nut and seal, torque 250 ft lbs, all slack removed from yoke and spins smoothly. I start the jeep, place in second gear, 2wd and ease out on the clutch.....squeak, squeak, squeak.....sheeeeiiiitttt I get underneath with shaft, wheels, everything that rotates moving and I can hear the squeaking but can't locate it....I don't know what else to do....Help

Solution
The Moser axle installation is complete, still had the squeak....I dropped the driveshaft and pulled the rear output shaft housing assembly, I put a cheesy, output shaft bearing in when I was resealing the Dana 20, it was a difficult installation and I noticed I had bent the oil seal up trying to seat it. I installed a heavy duty seal with metal on both sides, went in much easier with no damage to the seal. I torqued the output shaft yoke nut until I had about .003 shaft endplay. I had replaced the transmission mount but I had not replaced the motor mounts. Hey i'm under the jeep and the thing is gonna squeak anyway so I'll go ahead and do the motor mounts..... dropped it down and went for a drive....squeak fixed! IDK what I did but...

Thanks Scout! I'll give it a shot...I didn't want to leave the thrust block in and possibly have problems with clearance issues with the bearings and shafts..Thanks for the link J68, just what I was looking for!

Thanks fellas! I feel like I need to remove the thrust block to avoid issues down the road. I have a standard, open diff so i'm hoping it will be as easy as Scout claims..I'll do anything to avoid another redo of the drum brakes and I am not dropping another grand to convert to disc...new drums and shoes should work just fine....they did for 42 years..

If more traction is something you desire, nows the time for a lunchbox locker ;)
