1976 CJ7 Jeep with a engine/tranny/wiring harness out of a 1988 s10 blazer 4.3l v6 with th700r4 automatic tranny and a cj7 Dana 300 transfer case with Novak adapter.
Complete wiring harness from the s10 blazer. Painted with HOT PINK Pearl paint with standard sized metallic halographic pink flakes. Painted by me -a newb. New rear, front and side three wire LED lights, New parts, new custom dash-by me And a lot of guidance from fellow jeepers and lots of prayers etc.... :p
Okay so this may be a strange request but I'm looking for motor cushions for my 1988 Chevy s10 blazer 4.3 v6 engine that will fit on my CJ7 jeep v8 AMC motor mounts. (Hope I didn't confuse you all but if I did, let me elaborate.

If possible, I would like to keep and reuse my frame mounted AMC V8 motor mounts. In order to do so I would require the engine cushion mounts to fit the 4.3 v6 but also attach to the mounts from the AMC frame mounts.
Has anyone ever made or bought anything that is like what I'm describing? If yes, could you share pics and either specs or where to buy?
Thanks. Hope I didn't confuse anyone.
:chug:

Anyone have any modification ideas?

I'm so sorry, but didn't we already go through this with a big long thread about your engine mounts and where to locate the engine?

Hey Hedgehog, I checked my old threads and we only discussed placement of the motor and tranny but never touched on motor mount options. But that was a good question. ;)

IAnd I do have a pair of mounts but feel the quality is lacking.would prefer better mounts. Because, the more I think about it the less I like them. As I don't like where the main weight is distributed on the mounts. It appears to be strained.

I'd prefer to find mounts that come up under the engine rather than horizontally from the frame. ;)

Anyone use transdapt motor mounts AA #4563? If yes, may I get a photo of them installed? As I am unable to find what they look like installed.

Or even a photo of the Part Number AA-713089 installed?

Or motor mounts that are more a CJ7 style??
Thanks! I will also check my old threads. :chug:

Anyone??? Would prefer no welding. Just bolt on.

Could I use the old AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l stock mounts but find a aftermarket (4.3 v6) engine to frame mount? As I like the heavy duty stock mounts.

If not, what's a good "vertical" angled motor mount kit? I am figuring I don't like the one that I bought as they seem cheap and are angled horizontally rather than up into the engine. I have several posts of the mounts in the jeep.

Thanks bunches. Hope to get some help please. :o

If you were Very talented with a metal saw and welder you could fabricate a set of motor mounts like you are describing. If you have a lot of money you could pay someone to fabricate a set. But from what I can tell of your posts neither of those choices are going to happen any time soon. It seems to me that you've got enough on your plate without making things difficult. You have a set of motor mounts that will work. I had a similar set and they served me well for many years, thousands of others have done the same. You can't move forward on your project until the engine is nailed down so why not use the set you've got now. Move forward on the many swaps you've got going. Run the mounts for a while and if they still prove to be a problem (mental as in, "I want better looking mounts.") revisit them later.

Or thinking optimistically you could try this:

Use the mounts you have to start with. Jack up one side of your engine and mount the motor mounts that came with your engine and see how much you'd need to modify your stock explorer mount to attach to the CJ frame. This sets the required location for the engine in the frame. Once you have that done, set the new modified mount and move to the other side and do the same. It is likely that both sides won't be the same at all. It is even possible that the mounts won't need to be extensively modified at all.

Another choice for you:

Can you use the mounts you have as a skeleton and beef them up until you feel more comfortable with them. A little extra steel in the right places can bring comfort to an unsettled mind. One thing about the horizontal mounts. It is easy to settle your engine in place. The angles mounts are a bit of a pain. If you are lucky enough to be able to set one side, the other will fight you. When putting in my 360 I ended up needing to loosen up every nut and bolt in the mounting system. Then wiggle and juggle and pry bar everything until the engine found where it wanted to be and settle. Then there was the fun of tightening everything back up properly. Forget the torque wrench, just tighten until your are done, then move on. A real pain in the butt. With the horizontal mounts you tighten everything, get the bolts started in their respective holes and drop the engine, then tighten up the provided washers and nuts.

Hey Hedgehog thanks for the suggestions. Sorry its taking me so long and sooo many questions and concerns. Just afraid it won't work. :o

I may first try what you suggested about checking out the stick mounts against the engine. And then check on line and local fan shops for availability. I could also cut the TD mounts I have to work with the stock cj mounts but I may need to research a lot and ask diy people for ideas and hopefully pics.
If that doesn't work out, I will do as you suggest and try to install everything as best as possible, after I lift the mounts some on the frame.

Thanks bunches for your help!
I'm always open to more ideas...:notworthy:

I may consider trading my Dana 20 Transfer Case for a good quality (vertical) type motor mounts... Or trade for a well made pair of mounts.

I just checked around on the internet for DIY motor mounts. There are a surprising number of places that show how to make mounts yourself. I just might use some of their ideas myself. It seems that regular spring bushings can be used for motor cushioning. I can even see using spring frame bushings for part of the mounting system. After all if those bushings can hold a Jeep up, why can't they do the same for the motor?

I'll do some more internet search for diy mounts. Thanks. :chug:

I want to make this clear. Use the mounts you got with your New engine along with the frame mount from your new engine. Then you can compare both to see what needs to be modified to fit YOUR CJ frame. You might be able to cut, mix and match metal from your frame side CJ mounts to match your new motor mounts at least enough to tack them together. Then add steel to complete the project.

Yes. The more I think about it. The clearer I remember that I tried this set up. Sort of. I matched the blazer s10 engine mounts to the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l frame mounts. The main issue was not having a "plate" that united the three.

I think I will pull the engine up with the "cherry picker" and try again. I took pics of the stock cj mounts on the frame with the transdapt engine mounts connected and resting on the frame mounts.
I Will try again and see if I could cut the transdapt mounts to fit the stock s10 engine mounts to the stock s10 frame mounts that I pulled from the donor blazer and see if they can retrofit to the stock CJ7 frame mounts. If not, at least I will know.

However, if anyone has personal experience with the setup I'm talking about, please send pics and specs of how to make it work.:D

Again, I plan on using the s10 blazer stock engine mounts to s10 frame mounts, then attach to CJ7 stock frame mounts... (Hmm... I may have already written about this in a previous thread, but never followed through because of the fear of the unknown):p

Does this make any sense? Has anyone ever done this? If yes, please. Post pics and specs (diagrams) of the process. ..That will make my build soooooo much easier. :o

I thought I would just throw this in, but just make sure you check the engine/tranny/Transfer Case locations. to include radiator, firewall, shifter, hood, fenders and so on clearance. You want this perfect right?

Always. ;)
