Engine Serpentine Belt Issues

Hello All,
So I put in a rebuilt AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l L in my 1983 CJ7 and now the serpentine belt keeps rolling off at the fan/water pump pulley, and the alternator is slightly crooked and further back than the other pulleys. I have tried various things like adding washers in places that looked like they were needed, new belt, nothing helps. All the mounting brackets, power steering pump, A/C pump, idler pulley, vibration damper, and water pump pulley are from the original 4.2 L. Has anyone else ran into this issue before, or does anyone know of an inexpensive way to align the pulleys?

Did you take the belt and pulley system apart before the swap or just keep it intact? If it was intact, maybe an accidental bump that bent something?
If apart, did you take pictures so it went back exactly the same?
One thing I have used is an extremely long straight edge to check pulley alignment.
Is this your setup?

Although I just re-read and you said serpentine belt. And mine is obviously not serpentine.

I suspect that the mounting brackets, especially for the alternator are not the same.

Hey CJ, thanks for the reply! So I did a new (remanufactured) engine swap and it was just the block so I had to dismantle everything off my old engine and put it on the new one. I did take a lot of pictures on my phone, but unfortunately before I could transfer them to a backup location my phone was destroyed, I do have some of the pictures, just not all the ones I took before dismantling the old engine. Yes that is my serpentine setup and thank you, that is a very helpful diagram. My best friend recently bought an 82 CJ5 and he has the exact same engine and serpentine setup minus the stupid A/C pump and it's obvious when comparing the 2, mine is misaligned. Could you give me the source of this diagram because I am missing a few of these pieces. Thanks again!

It's probably not hard to convert. I doubt the block is different (but could be wrong).

A few of my brackets were... "creatively engineered" and I got replacements off eBay.

I passed that point way too long ago. And then I found the wires pushed through a stretch of garden hose for the passenger side tail light rather than dropping the gas tank and doing it the right way.

Oh, and the house wiring wire nuts instead of proper crimp connectors.

With the butchered engine bay wiring, I decided to just punt and get a Painless kit.

And then the "as long as I'm in there" bug took over.
