So I was Working On the Engine.

I wanted to see if my heat riser was working for warming the engine up. Crackes out the manual to see just how this was hooked up. Very simple. I went through the tests to see if the flapper was working in the aircleaner snorkel. So I am looking at this thing with the snorkel hose off and tried it with the correct vacuum hose routing. Flap didn't open. So per the manual, I ran a direct hose from a vacuum port to the pot for the flap. Turned the engine over and looked at the flap. Wide open. Need to replace the thermo sensor. So, I am looking at this flap and something didn't look right. There seemed to be a "box" on top of the flap. It turned out the previous owner had got a hideaway key box and put an ignition key in it and stuck it in the snorkel. There is no telling how long this thing has been in there. I'm guessing A - long - time as the key is an AMC original key it appears. Has the logo stamped on the key head. Goes to show you, when you think you "know" about your CJ, you might not.
