Next time tell the wife/GF that you think it needs a new winch or a new set of tires to fix it...!!

My wife has pretty much supported this project over the last 20 months. She even suggested I go look at another Jeep so I would have a new project when this one was finished .

Anyway, hopefully today is the day to get this bad boy fired up!

:)Billy,

Wow.... your wife want's you to start another project? How about I bring you mine?
Hummmmm.............

You have done an outstanding job!

Good luck on getting that lit up today!

:D:D:D:D

good luck with first start up!!

Hope all went well

I guess somethings are just hard to diagnose until they come apart. What seemed to be an issue with the starter wasn't the starter at all. The ring gear was slipping on the flywheel. It finally came completely off when trying to fire the engine. Will be contacting the shop that did the work tomorrow to find out what they're going to do about it.

Anyway Thanks to everybody again for all the help trying to figure out what the problem was. - Bill

That sucks it is hard these days to get anything done right. I'm glad that you found the problem and I hope they make it right.

I'm just glad it didn't do any other damage when it came apart. I still can't believe it came apart.

I did not see that one coming.:wtf:

I might have missed it but what kind of work was done previously? New flywheel or ring gear?

Ive never seen one come off like that either.

Wondering if its a bad aftermarket one or something.

What kind of clearance is there if you try and slip it back on; you should have to get that thing pretty damn hot (almost red) before it expands enough to go on. You should not be able to hammer it back on.

The flywheel was resurfaced and a new ring gear installed. I talked to the machine shop that did the work and was told that their suppliers have been sending them :dung: manufactured in China and it doesn't always react like it should. My guess is that it may not have been the right size to begin with, because now I can push it on with my hands.

WTF? Thats :dung:. They should have caught that. Must be stretchy steel that "reacted" wrong to the starter. I don't know, maybe it didnt contract correctly when it cooled. I'm guessing you are right, wrong size to begin with.

I supposed you could weld the thing on there if you want but geez. When I was a tech we got most of our stuff, including those ring gears, through NAPA. Alot of that stuff is from China too but I suppose different vendors but from different distibutors. Never had a comeback once on a ring gear.
