Starter won't turn off.

After starting my CJ7 the starter won't stop. It keeps going after key was in run position, then tried to turn the jeep off and the engine wouldn't turn off. I had to pull the negative off the battery to kill the starter and engine. As soon as I hook it up to trace the problem the starter starts to spin. Any thoughts?

Since both the starter and ignition wouldn't turn off I'd start with the ignition switch itself.

To test if it is the switch or the solenoid - pull the wire off the 'S' terminal on the solenoid and hook up the battery. If it tries to crank the solenoid is bad. If it doesn't crank, put the 'S' wire on - if it immediately cranks it is the switch.
