I just noticed that my steering column shaft is missing the bolt for the clamp on the upper part of the steering column shaft. Does anyone know the size of it so i can get a replacement. Just eyeballing it, it looked to me like maybe 3/8". I found one from dead jeep.com but they want 20$ for it. Surely there is not anything that special about it right? Just a run of the mill carriage bolt would work or am I missing something? It's on my 83 Scrambler.

I appreciate the help

It's not an uncommon bolt size. It's just the length of the bolt before the the threads start that makes it uncommon.
Get any grade eight bolt that you can put in with a locking nut and your good to go.
