I've got a T-18 that doesn't seem to want to go into 2nd gear whenever the vehicle is rolling at lower RPM. It goes in pretty easily if I'm at a complete stop, but if I'm moving forward at low RPM, forget about it. No grinding at all, it simply won't go. I've checked the synchos, and they're good. No other abnormal signs of wear either (from what I could tell).
If I accelerate in 1st, I have to raise the RPM to around 3500 before I can get it to slide in (barely). Then downshifting (which I know can be tricky) is nearly impossible. This makes it a bear to try and drive through town and not being able to have 2nd most of the times.
This is my first Jeep, so I don't have any previous experience with these transmissions. I have no clue how it shifted originally, because when I bought the CJ, it was in pieces already, so I figured I'd rebuild it while it was already out. I have it in a shop right now getting looked over, but my question is, is this normal operation for this Transmission ? From what I've read so far, it sounds like I'm just going to have to drive it a while and find that sweet spot.
