Hi I have a 79 CJ5 with a 3 speed T-150 and also I think it has a Dana 20 Transfer Case and a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l strait 6. I bought a Pace Performance gm 350 v8. I like my 3 speed transmision and want to keep it. Will this drive train be strong enough for the v8 or do I have to get a stronger transmision. Thanks, any info will help.

It's probably strong enough but my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l is screaming at 55 with the T-150 , I can only imagine what it would do if I had a V8 in front of the T-150 .

The T-150 came behind the AMC V8 so it should handle a Chevy 350 unless you are too rough with it.

Thanks for your info. I wasn't sure they had put the AMC 304 v8 with the T-150 Transmission . I am going to go ahead with the T-150 even though its not geared very low for offroading and at 55 mpg the rpm is high, I dont realy want to go much faster than that it can get a little squarly. Thanks.:)

In my younger years, I ran a built 1971 AMC 360 in front of a T-150 in my 1977-7, and beat the snot out of it, mostly street driven, lots of burn outs on basically 29" tall tires, but never hurt the tranny. I had a crane firball cam, 4 barrel, and headers, it screamed, and was a blast to drive, it had to have at least 350hp.... stock in 71 was rated right around 300hp. Needed one piece axles for that thing,.....

T150s are tough and will hold up to anything a small block can dish out.

Thanks for your info cant wait to get started on my engine swap. Im sure I will have more questions and need your help thanks.
