so i may finally be picking a a Transmission and am trying to get some drive shafts for the the swap from my T-5 . All ebay says is length? Anyone know the measure lengths of these shafts? thanks for the help

Side question, any idea what shift boot is used if you got a twin stick as it looks like the double boot will not work.

Curious as well. I'll be doing the same swap hopefully soon. Can you note your progress as it comes?

Per Tom Woods it looks like the Front Drive Shaft for the T-176 should be 29.50" and for the rear 22.90". Measurements were noted as fixed yoke to fixed yoke in the middle of it's travel.

They also note the existing stock T-5 rear is 20.80" but not sure on what the front is. Haven't measured mine yet.

i know the rear is longer and front shorter...just hoping i can score some...some of the prices on ebay are rcrazy...200 for a used shaft:(

I haven't checked around yet but I was going to check one of the local shops what they charge to lengthen and shorten before I buy new. I know they'd need the existing and new lengths which I'm not planning on getting until I do the swap.

Drive Shaft Length
Doing an engine and or Transmission swap? Here is a list of what drive shaft length goes with what combo. Some will swap around.

I'm doing a swap from AMC 150 /T-4 to a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /T177. My "excuse" for going to a T177 was that I could use my current drive shafts. Had I retained the T-4 , I would have had to change or modify my driveshafts.

The list covers 81-86 CJ's. It comes form the parts manual.

Look for your engine size first, then the Transmission , then the year.
The numbers in the "Model" column are NOT years, they relate to CJ5 ,CJ6 ,CJ7 ,CJ8 .

85 = CJ5 1981-1983
86 = CJ6 1981
87 = CJ7 1981-1986
88 = CJ8 , Scrambler 1981-1986

If you plan on any suspension modification, you may not want to buy stock length shafts. Put your lift kit or YJ springs on first then measure yoke to yoke so a shop can center the spline. You should be able to reuse one of your shafts if you have it shortened. Cut and balance is pretty cheap, I paid $60 at my local shop. It can be cheaper if you don't have it balanced. I'd only go unbalanced on the front though. Lengthening a shaft is more expensive because they have to remove both yokes and buy a new tube. You might get away with having one of yours shortened and picking up a YJ front shaft to shorten using your old yokes.

well, any updates? Did you get it in and rolling?

i got everything to do it(Transmission ,shafts,ujoints,new seals) but found some rot in my tub where my seat belt is so ive been trying to figure that out first i think...kinda screwed me all up!

i do have next saturday off work so i may just throw it in then.

Kindof in the same position. Now I'm waiting till after some company comes and visits. What driveshafts & lengths did you buy?

got em from a member, believe they came from a CJ7 w/176. deff different lenghts than what i have...gotta repair some floors so i may pull it then? but trying to keep that job to a min... dont wanna be down too much/long
