1980 CJ 5, 4.2 engine, D30,AMC 20, T176, Dana 300, MC 2100 carburetor.
I may have screwed up big time.
Recently got a rebuilt engine with a 1978 block. But now i'm not sure my T-176 will bolt up to it. Seems CJ's didn't use the 176 until 1980. Pre 1980 used the T-150 .
I have the T150 as well but it won't bolt up to my Dana 300 Transfer Case .
I thought I had done all my homework, but evidently not.
After more research looks like the 1980 clutch uses a 1.125" shaft the pre 1980 is 1 1/16. I don't know what the other differences are, but the pre 1980's clutches are different than the 1980 clutch.
Anyone know if the T176 will bolt up to my engine. What modifications will it need? different bushing? or is it even possible?
 
The T-150 and T-176 use the same b-housing, you're good!

What has me concerned is the output shaft size?? I can't find a definitive answer to that or if I should use a clutch for a 1978 or 1980.
The guy I purchased the whole shebang from just put a new clutch in the T-150 and I was hoping I could use that clutch in my T-176 , but evidently not.
I'm sofa king confused???????????????

You have to use the 80 clutch with the 176.
The 176 has a 1 1/8" diameter input shaft
The AMC 150 has a 1 1/16" diameter input shaft.
78 block 150/176 bell, 176, Transmission , and 80 clutch

Don't forget the pilot bearing.
You may be able to use the pressure plate as long as the clutch discs same diameter.
