t18 mishap!

t18 mishap!
what reason do you think this T-18 has a 6.5 stick out, this one has all the right stuff other then the stick out?

The Ford version as I know it sticks out is 6.5”; that is the spec Ford used to meet their needs in the pickups they came out of. The puzzle to me is the 6.25” stick out you state, a ¼” shorter than the Ford spec. Let us know what the actual measurement is once you find out.

its 6.5in. 10 spline, the out put is 6 spline,

If the input shaft sticks past the front edge of the bell by 1/2", as it does on mine. And the standard bell is 8 1/2" deep than the "ford" input shaft will need a pilot bushing that sticks out about 1 1/2 "??

The standard depth Bell Housing from the flange where the Transmission bolts to and to where it meets the face of the block for a 6.5" input shaft is between 6.250" to 6.500"...........some input shafts had a longer pilot bushing nipple than others for difference's in motor crankshafts & applications.......the longer nipple used with the shorter Bell can just be ground or machined off......the right length Throw-out bearing or bushing still must be used for each one.

At that depth it most likely had a GM motor in front of it or perhaps a Ford.
Like I said before ...........measure the spline diameter.......Ford & Jeep versions were off by .060" Jeep being larger @ 1.125" and Ford being smaller @ 1.062"........
The Jeep B&W 6.5" version is a little rare but not unheard of since Novak was making a front input shaft at the 6.500" length to convert a Jeep "wide ratio box only" to the shorter input shaft.......

Measure the diameter of the spline. The larger one would have been behind a Jeep or AMC application the other would be using a Ford Disc , behind allot of different motors. Take the cover off and look inside at the gears and the ratio.........
