I drained the T-5 . Took out the fill on the other side above the electrical connection. Turns out this was not the fill hole. The bolt came out but was not what i was looking for. Found the real fill hole and filled it. The other bolt on drivers side has a step down to the end. We wiggled and got the bolt in but finally realized that only 1,2 and n work but neutral to the passenger side and 4,5, and reverse dont work. We retried and got it all together. Started it and it grinds when clutch is released in neutral.

Is there a special order to installing?View attachment 15291

Thanks in advance! Im stuck at my buddies

We have been messing with it. We took off the top cover of tranny, but could not remove with the linkage. It looks as though there is a clip that goes on the end. Is this a drop the tranny or is it just messing around till you get it. We got it in but had no reverse or fifth. After reading, this is for fifth and reverse. All other gears work.

I looked at an exploded view of the T-5 , its a pivot pin. Might have to open the Transmission up to get it back together ?

Does bell housing have to come off or just drop tranny?

Should I disconnect front drive shaft and pull Transfer Case with it?

I found it easier to pull the Transfer Case first, it was on jacks also, you should be able to check/replace the seals this way. As I recall the Transfer Case weighs around 80 lbs., practically crushed my chest. I would have to recommend using a tranny jack for each. You can of course use an engine hoist to remove the tranny from the top. Hopefully the throwout bearing is in good shape. Aligning the tranny can get tricky too, some guys use more fancier methods and tooling. Good Luck!

Ok, thanks! I am diving in tomorrow

Can i disconnect drive shafts at the tranny and transfer, leave fluid in and drop tranny and transfer as one on a jack. I just need the top cover off tranny the get the pivot pin back in?

Stabbing the tranny into engine would be near impossible

Ok, can i drop tranny and transfer as one?

Yep, you call pull together if you want to.

They really should have put a "DO NOT REMOVE" sticker above that bolt..... Can't tell you how many threads I've seen over the years where someone thought it was the fill hole for the Transmission fluid.

Ok, thank you! I think its deceiving!

Alright, got it dropped and apart. One look and I called a Transmission shop. Taking in Monday.

Tranny back. I think I have to install tranny and transfer together. Don't see how I can mount top bolts of transfer without connecting out of jeep. Another question is there a gasket between the two? I see rtv but not sure what the gasket would be called
