T5 Rebuild

T5 Rebuild
I’ve run into a new wrinkle. I have disassembled and cleaned and am now re-assembling my Transmission ; I’m working on a build thread which I’ve started.

The issue I’ve run into is I broke a thrust washer and cannot find anyone who sells it and am looking for suggestions. It’s a lipped thrust washer that rides between the reverse slider blocking ring and 1st gear. The lip is so that the first gear needle bearing sleeve can rest on the washer properly. This washer was mis-aligned and snapped when I was pressing the 5th driven gear on the output shaft.

As far as I can tell these washers were only used in ‘84 & ‘85 Jeeps. Here’s a picture.

I am beginning a Transmisson (T-5 ) and Transfer Case (Dana 300 ) rebuild. Does anyone on the forum have a good recommendation on rebuild kits for the T-5 ? I can get one for the Dana 300 from Novak, but they don’t seem to make one for the T-5 . Thanks in advance.

I rebuilt my T-5 a couple of years ago. Used the rebuild kit sold by Paul Cangialosi. He is one of the most knowledgeable people in the country on the T-5 and has rebuilt over 5000. He sells a very good kit. Look him up on facebook or 5speeds.com. He was also a great resource. I texted and called him directly. There's nothing about a T-5 he doesn't know.

Thanks, yeah I know who you're talking about, I watched one of his rebuild videos. The guy's a wizard when it comes to T5s, and he does it so effortlessly. I'll reach out, I was thinking of him, but didn't know the 5speed.com site. Cheers!
