I just got a 85 CJ7 with a Chevy 350 and the original T-5 Transmission . It has a 2" spring lift, 2" shackle lift, 1.5" body lift, and a 1" Transfer Case drop. So the clutch is not disengaging completely. It's still spinning slightly when going in reverse. The free play in the pedal is less and .5"
The shifting rod is tight and I have a funky situation going on with the clutch bracket & pivot with a custom throw-out clutch rod. I'm assuming I need an extended clutch pedal rod with helm joints like the Rugged Ridge or Barnett Products kit. Should I replace the Clutch bracket & pivot? And check out my body lift.

You have a few things going on.

While I like the T-5 (most don't) it is not designed to hold up to V8 power. If it were me and if I had to pull it out to replace the clutch or worse yet fix the Transmission . I'd simply replace it with an ax15. That way you still have an Overdrive but with a much more robust Transmission behind the V8.

As far as the lift I would at the very least drop the shackle lift and also check pinion angle while your at it.

Right now I'm looking to get this thing going. I bought it sight unseen and the seller said I runs good and it's ready to cruise. We have different definitions of what's safe and ready for cruise night. The clutch grabs and Transmission shifts. It just needs adjusting. It should last long enough till I do something else with the Transmission . I was thinking of dropping the shackle lift and replacing the body lift with a M.O.R.E. kit

They have adjustable clutch rods and kits with hime joints. I have them in my 85. Unfortunately I don't remember the kit as it was installed 20 years ago

I haven't but I also haven't looked TBH. Think my next one will be a hydraulic setup
