I ordered the MC2150 carb and I was planning on doing the butter, then I read that the hei doesn't use any of the computers in my jeep. It looks to me like the coil is right on top, soul that would eliminate the need for my stock coil, correct? How is this different or better than the team rush? Is there anything else I should be looking at instead?

Yes you are correct. The team rush is just adding a bigger cap and rotor to the org. dissy.

The computer in the late model CJs controls the carb fuel mixture and some of the ignition advance. With a new carb and Nutter bypass you might as well throw the computer and the items it controls away. With a late model AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , I would suggest a Team Rush Upgrade. The advantage to both systems is the large cap which helps with spark arcing inside the cap, the brass contacts in that cap is another plus also.

With the team Rush conversion you get a bigger more efficient cap and wires with all the other wires and junk you have now. There is comfort in knowing that you aren't drastically altering your Jeeps ignition system.

The HEI is a new GM style ignition where everything is in one unit, yes it includes a high energy coil, the ignition brain box or module, advance mechanism, all the goodies that make up the spark distribution system in one nice neat efficient package. Part of the coolness of the HEI coil location is the short wire runs, that reduce any sort of line losses. The other part is a simple one full 12v wire install, with an additional place for a tachometer wire to be installed. Then there's the ever present problem associated with V8 AMC motors and incompatible ignition timing gears. Simply put, the wrong gear will tear up an AMC V8's timing gear and possibly ruin the entire engine. This is a simple fix really. Use the gear from your stock distributor. It's simple to do, really it is. Whether or not the same problem exists with the AMC I6 is a bit of a mystery, but the problem is big enough with the V8 to automatically spill over to the I6.

Both systems are far superior to the stock system.

Thanks for the advice. So with the HEI both the computer in the cab and the one under the coolant reservoir are gone? I like the idea of an all in one setup. I also like the idea of a tach, since mine doesn't have one.

This is quickly becoming an expensive new toy. I'm glad the frame and tub are in great shape. I've ordered the following in the past 2 days:

New Gronk 2150 Carb setup
New aluminum valvle cover
Team Rush Upgrade
Water Temp sensor
Oil Pressure sensor
Dimmer Switch
Turn signal cam and steeing wheel puller and lock plate puller
3 Piece cable kit
31 tooth speedo gear and o-ring

I still need to diagnose the oil pressure gauge, but more than likely I'm going to do two autometer gauges instead. After that, she will get a full fluid swap, and she'll be running like a top!
