Installed the Team Rush ignition upgrade many years ago. Jeep not driven much. It is at hunting lease now. But, since being there, at least 4 of the MSD blaster 2 coils have failed in past 4 years, and we cannot understand why.

We confirmed the head is properly grounded.
The coil is mounted upright.
6AL is wired directly to battery (yellow top)
Voltage is good

What would be a replacement for this coil?

I had that problem also. Got rid of theAL6 and coils. Need to sell that stuff. I bought extras for road trips.

Did you remove the coil resistance circuit?
The MSD coil is designed to run on a full 12vdc.

On 'Black Betty' I've got everything wired up and ready for the MSD 6A box. This is remembering the procedure as JeepHammer recommended years ago. One difference I noticed is I'm running a Blue Streak E-Coil instead of the MSD Coils. Since taking all the steps JeepHammer recommended, 'Black Betty' runs better even without installing the MSD 6A box. I had some other unrelated things I had to take care of. Another point in JH's post was the absolute need to run the MSD 6A DIRECTLY to the battery terminals to ensure nominal function. I hope this helps.

What brand spark plugs?

Depending on what engine you have, the factory spark gap setting will be between 0.028" and 0.035".

Once you have changed the cap, rotor and put some reasonable plug wires and plugs in the engine (performed the "Team Rush" upgrade), you can control higher spark energies.

That means opening up to the spark gap to get those higher spark energies.

You can SAFELY open the plug gap to around 0.045" and that will drive firing voltages up to around 40,000 volts and give you a faster, cleaner spark.

Go over that 0.045", and you run the risk of making TOO MUCH voltage, and having the spark energy start bouncing around in the wider/taller distributor cap again.

Anything past 40K or 45K volts, and you are seriously ROBBING both the AMPERAGE & DURATION of your spark in the gap, and remember, all voltage does is PRIME the gap for the actual spark.

Actual spark is comprised of AMPERAGE & DURATION, and you don't want to be cutting the engine short on those or you will start having 'Issues' again.

Stick with some good quality, basic Copper Core plugs and gap them to about 0.045".

Just a heads up.
Copper Core Wires will be heard on your Stereo System......

Just Saying.....
You can Hear a Harley Riders Stereo way before you hear the Shorty Pipes .....LOL 😆

ALSO, I know there are some Mall Krawlers, and Beach Buggies amongst the subscribers on this site.....
that never have seen a BLM, National Forest Two Track, or Logging Road, none the less true Blaze a Trail.....

Stereo adds more unnecessary complexity to the tight quarters of an 8 and how I use it. All the usual places most folks put speakers I have things more important (to me), winch bag, compressor , spare parts box, tool bag, pistol/ammo box, etc. Would it be nice? Sure, but the juice isnt worth the squeeze for me ;)

EXACTLY !!
I have So Much "Break Down/Trail Survival/Obstacle Retrieval" STUFF packed into the Timber Cruiser ......
That you have to Get Out to Change Your Mind !!

and 95% of it if ever used was for Someone Else in the Group Off Roading.......
