The best way to spend $5,000 on you cj

How's it going my cj brothers? Haven't been here for awhile and have not done anything on my 76 CJ7 since the R/E lift kit and M/Twheels and 35 '' tires. I have come into some money for cj finally now the best way to spend it. Here is what I have AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ,SR4 ,Dana 300 ,30 in the front 20 in the back,272 gears, I have another set of axles with 3,73's the back is a narrow track 44 with a goofy detroit locker they only make for anymore it seems. The front w/t 30. The 6 banger runs ok but the carter carb sucks. Here are my needs Seats, Roll cage (have the original) front fenders ,power steering, brakes, lengthen rear drive shaft, top and doors, a away to fix the tailgate hinges,(bolts broke in body). WANTS V8 and a better tranny. Mostly a street jeep but needs to able to wheel too.Any help would be great. Thanks

If you want to wheel it you probally need something like 4:56 or 4:88 gears instead of the 3:73's with thoes 35" tires. Than I'd look into some kinda fuel injection and get rid of the carb. If by cage you mean a real cage and not just a roll bar, add a T-18 and the rest of your "needed" items, Id say your money is now spent.

Yea a real cage, have been looking at full cages .Wow pretty pricey for tubing. I built a complete sandrail frame for alot less than what they want. Like the fuel injection idea. i was thinking about 4.56's also after reading a recent article in jp magazine. The AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l was remanufactured but not sure when. I can't believe how well it runs with the 2.72's

The AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l is a great motor the biggest down fall is the carb the put on them.
