The Jeep Wave

The Jeep Wave
But those are generic things. Most vehicles had leaf springs, the bronco and Toyo Landcruiser (that some confused with a Jeep or even called it one) had a fold down windsheild, which no longer exists on Wranglers. And the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 's weren't exclusive to the Jeep.
But look at some of the differences; the body was different, the frame was diff., the Transmission . & Transfer Case were diff., both axles were diff., the interior was diff. (including the round speedo in the center of a flat dash, a distinct decades long feature), and of course the name and model designation. So what was really left? Even the tops were different.

The Jeep - now Jeep Wrangler = most capable 4x4,4wd,trail rig produced/in production.

America then - America now = Freedom & Model nation to follow(although that is slipping away in my opinion)

I will agree to disagree but I will continue to wave.:chug:

That's fine to disagree, I'm just stating the indisputable facts. And don't get me wrong. I'm not busting on the wrangler. It's a fine vehicle on it's own. But it's clearly not the same vehicle as a Jeep. :chug:

I agree with you PaRenegade - somewhat. Todays Jeep is a far cry from it's military roots but you cannot say that the Wrangler was a completely different vehicle. Leaf spring suspension, fold down windshield, AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l in-line six all these things and many more came from the Jeep heritage. In God We Trust is still on the dollar bill in your pocket. Just because it is not acknowledged does not mean that those are not the true American roots.

The wrangler is a whole different tree. Its like comparing the roots of a sunflower to a big old maple tree. The CJ the one and only.

The wave is alive in kcmo. My cj jeeps always got them. My tj jeeps not always. Jk owners far and few .

Alive and well in North Texas. Get waves from all the wranglers too, even the $50k+ mall crawlers around here. Have one that is easily over $60k that I would bet big money has never seen dirt, looks really capable though. :)

I haven't got my jeep regestered yet here in Florida. It's titled in Texas still and a new tag will cost me $420. Too many other priorities. I hate it.

It's alive in so cal. At least YJ's and down. I am not sure if newer "Jeep" owners even know what a CJ is. Might as well be an old hummer to them.

Been out and about all weekend just touring around the parks and streets enjoying the topless air and the thumbs up from people. It does seem the wrangler and later model jeep owners tend not to wave when waved at. I think it is because most may have not done anything but put gas i their machines while these ole CJs do take some TLC to stay on the road. I really enjoy comments like, that thing is 30 years old?, It would be nice to have a shiny new Rubicon with all the gadgets and goodies like smoother ride and creature comforts, but, the 50G plus tag for a toy is outa my future. The CJs really come across as ,JEEPS, where later models are more of a chrysler product and are in a slightly different category

Greetings form the woods in BAYOU CHICOT LOUISIANA: the jeep wave, well i thank there may be several mods at work here,i mean it is kinda like your grandmother"s biscuits,or my grandmother's .
they are all good just not the same, down here in Louisiana we have the redneck wave, the cajun wave, the buba wave(not to be confused with rednecks) and then we have the two handed over the top CJ5 LSU WAVE.
as a new member of this site i hope i have not stepped on any one's toes with this post.
i have wondered about this subject all my life and was thrilled to find this post on the jeep wave.

Its funny I never knew this was a thing and I never really cared for the two finger throwdown bikers do cruisin through the mountains gets kind of annoying when you're following a group motorcycles but it is kind of fun lol.

Most of the 4doors around here in Northern Idaho are just grocery getters and the owners don't have a clue about the wave or dirt roads. I refer to them as "Hummer wannabes". :D:D:D

I'm in Burbank, CA and I rarely get the wave. There are a lot of Wranglers around here, but everyone seems way too self absorbed to even look at each other. My soft top is still on so maybe when I'm completely top down, I'll initiate a nod or wave. After reading this whole thread, I think we ought to carry on tradition.

I'm glad to see that there are places in the country where Wrangler owners will still wave to a CJ. They understand that owning a short-wheelbase Jeep is a fraternity. JKs are so popular, that the owners seem like they're the bad *** little brother who doesn't need to show respect to anyone.

The crazy thing I realized a couple months ago is that it won't be long before the Wrangler will have more model years than the CJ. A very strange thought.

I'm from Georgia and live up in the beautiful Smokey Mtns. Lots of jeeps on vacation here hardly any wavers out of the bunch. Among the locals we have quite a few CJ7 's & and 5's running around here so lots of waving going on. Jk drivers from atlanta can't see over the end of their nose's to wave

More illustrations of what I've been saying. The wave is a Jeep thing, the Jeep vehicle, not the brand and not the wrangler. Jeep = CJ, CJ = Jeep -historical fact!

The Jeep ran 45 years (41-86). The Wrangler has run 26 years (87-2013). They have a while to go.
