The UPS man came to my door today,

CJ, you crack me up :D.

Listen you guys, what I said I said out of frustration. I will say it again, it was not directed towards any one individual. Do you ever see the same infomercial again and again, and just get sick of seeing it? Perfect example, those stupid informercials for any number of knives by Chef Tony? Anyway, back on point, I am more than willing to read information, read schematics, look over an idea someone scribbles down on a bar napkin. I'm not unwilling to learn. But, I don't take things on faith or word of mouth.

As for my "high horse". I'm sorry you felt that it was neccesary to take a personal pot shot at me. If you know where to find the information, please point me in the right direction. Like I said, I am not unwilling to learn something new.

Hahahahahaha!!!

No worries dalefan :chug:. The Summit brand is made by Mallory. The Summit one I bought is the exact same thing as the Mallory Hyfire 6-EZ.

Saturday, I got the old distributor out. OBTW, moving the engine to TDC was easier than I thought... The stupid key moved when I took the old distributor out. What a pain in the butt that was to get realigned. Got the new distributor in, it required a little persuasion and a little lube, but I get her in there. The rest of the stuff is laid out. The Taylor wires are on back-back order, so they aren't going to ship until at least the 16th now. So I picked up a set of MSD do it yourself wires.

But, the wife had other plans for the rest of the weekend, which included a lot of painting inside our house.... Hopefully tonight, I can get the wires built, hopefully.

Have you thought about going the teamrush route?

 I think this is where I duck!

You gotta admit...That's pretty funny. :D

I really haven't gotten squat done all week. The ignition box and coil are mounted and I got half of the plug wires built tonight. If you ever have the opprotunity to build you own plug wires, stock lots of beer, it's a serious PITA. I'll have pics this weekend.

Here's the pictures I promised;

I started with this

Brought the engine around to top dead center

Started pulling the old stuff off, look how crappy my old distributor looks
dsc_0018.jpg

Got all of that old stuff stipped right down to the block

Got the new dizzy in and and set the engine back to TDC, the key moved while taking the old one out, what a pain in the butt that was to get straightened out

Found a spot that I liked for the ignition box and coil (yes I realize all of the dangers of putting them there :))

Full set of custom made (by me :D) MSD streetfire 8mm plug wires, until the Taylor wires get here from Summit...

And one final shot tonight after I got all of the wiring soldered together

I got started today about noon, and spent most of the day in the garage. I finished off the plug wires, they aren't bad, once you get going and get a feel for making them they go pretty quick. That reminds me, I got a postcard from Summit Racing in the mail today, the estimated shipping date for my Taylor 8.2mm Thunder series wires is now September 26th.

After I got all of the plug wires built and installed I started on the wiring for the new box. The instructions that Summit provided really aren't bad, and all of the wires are labeled, so it made it quite easy. I borrowed a soldering station from work, so I went to work butt connecting all of the wires. It took me probably 4 or so hours to do it this way, but now I know they're done right. Butt connected and soldered, then smeared in dielectric grease, then heat shrink tubing over top. Got all of the wires ran and everything looks good. I didn't start her, by the time I wrapped everything up it was almost 8 o'clock, and I didn't want to start screwing with it that late. So, I'll let everyone know tomorrow when I get her running!

I cant believe you didnt fire it up. Fine we'll wait till tomorrow. Tease. :D

WELL...we're waiting

Impatient bunch aren't you??? :D

I kept the OEM Autolite 985 sparkplugs in, I just regapped them to .045, and smeared them with dielectric grease too while they were out. Turned the key and she fired right up. No screwing with the throttle until she got warmed up, no getting out and and she dies because she isn't warm yet, that was awesome. The timng was actually pretty close from the get go. I've got the timing set at 12 degrees BTDC, that seemed to be were it wanted to run the best.

Driving down the road, man does she pull, I ran it right up to 55 like nothing, and she had lot's of pedal left. Sitting at idle though, she still shakes like a methead in rehab . I think it has a lot less to do with the ignition as it does with the carb. I don't know, any suggestions?

One more thing, the "exhuast leak" that I swore that I've had since I did the motorcraft carb install. Isn't an exhaust leak at all, it's definately a tick coming out of the motor. Because as you adjust the timing back and forth I can hear the ticking coming and going. Please tell me this doesn't mean I'm losing (or lost) compression in a cylinder???
