i need a truck and trailer to take the jeep to offroad parks :grinjeep:
wonder how i can break this one to the wife lol.

That might be a hard one to pull off. I have the truck, I just can't find a trailer at the right price.

It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission...

that one is a tuffy lol. i figured a 88- say 93 chevy truck runs about $1400 then the cost for a trailor lol.

I'd never be without one anymore.
I talked to wife into one by breaking down on the way home from Jellico.
One of the other club members we were traveling with put our jeep on his trailer and towed us home. We went looking for a trailer right after that.
There is one down side though, now I know I can get it home even if it's broke, so I tend to wheel it harder than before.

thats why i want one. in two weeks all my buddys are going to haspin acres and i want to take the jeep. but the guy that i knew with the trailer that could fit three trucks on it sold it. know everyone is towing their own. my jeep is not up to par for a 3 hour drive there, then wheeling, then 3 hours back home.

Not only is a trailer great for taking the Jeep to the trails, where you can wheel it with a greater degree of freedom (knowing you don't have to drive it home), but a truck and trailer are nearly indispensable around the house to do yard chores.
I bought my trailer new in 2000, after a long debate with my wife. Now its one of those things she will not let go for any reason. I may even be getting a new one next year to replace this one, since its been put thru the wringer a few too many times! lol

So like Old Dog said, just go on one outing where you break down a ways from home with no hope of fixing it there...then just tell her you will be buying a truck and trailer in the near future. I'd bet she would agree with ya!

ps. and mention how much more comfortable she would be on the trips in and out of the trails...
pss. You don't even have to get a truck per se. I do all my towing with my '99 Dodge Durango. Seating for 7, with luggage, and towing the jeep at 70 MPH on cruise is the way to go!

Like Mylittlecj5 said a trailer come in handy for a lot of things besides just towing the jeep. It's one of thoes things where all of a sudden everyone knows you own one and have something big they need moved.

This being a cj site I hate to say it but, the wife and I really would rather ride in the truck for 4 or 5 hours than in the jeep.

Im only 19 and im thinking of getting a 2 car hauler trailer just because i always need a trailer for doing something like when i was doing the fence that would have been great! instead of making two trips to put it all in my truck, and now my dad needs to use one because were doing his roofs on his house, garage and shed and siding on all 3 also. I would just do what I do buy it bring it home and say you cant take it back now :D lol

that looks workable, plus the van would be comfy on longer trips. I would drop that back to a dual axle though, no need for the triple for a Jeep, and you would have a spare trailer axle.

plus i could sleep in it.

i like the van idea. now to come up with the money.

You got me doing some searching now, dalefan, I found this Camper 4 car hauler conversion, which could be a good winter project to make it into a car trailer.

If you want a good trailer that will last, stay away from the "travel trailer turned into a flatbed" deals. The frame on those are not nearly strong enough to haul much more than a couch without major, major (I mean rebuilding the entire frame) work.

Don't believe me? get under any camper and look at the sub structure. Mostly a frame of 2 main rails of 3" channel and a bunch of 2" angle outrigging. Great for people walking on the plywood floor, but not so great for a 3000+ Lb. vehicle.

16' loboy, tilt bed, $1050 new
02 Dodge 250, $25K+ new
12 hour drive with A/C and cruise control - priceless

Now the problem here is not what you need/want, but how to get it past the spouse. As noted earlier, it is easier to gain forgiveness than permission, but there may be some pain associated. In 49+ years of marriage, I have faced that dilemma many times. In the above mentioned purchase, I just did it, suffered through the "why did you do that" questions, the (thank you) silent treatment, and, finally, the 'can son/daughter borrow your trailer so they can move' redemption. Of course, I can say all this because my bride is completely computer illiterate and has no idea what I'm doing on here.
