so im selling my cj to buy another cj... i know im an idiot but any way. so i get this guy that wants to come see my jeep.. so i go clean it up before he gets here. of course it runs good then a guy comes to look at it, and it wont crank. then the guy shows up and looks at the jeep and said he likes it and if i can get it to crank he will come back with cash and a trailer.

its a screwdriver ignition and i tried it and it "wouldnt even click even when i jump it off" so i spend forever trying to figure out whats wrong with the ignition and found out my multimeter is screwed up. everything was acting like it wasnt getting any power at all so i spend another forever going through and redoing all the connections. still nothing. so i do a battery swap an get a click out of the starter. turns out the battery i swapped with is dead too so i try to jump this one.. it finally cranks. i tell the guy i got it going and he said he will try to come tomorrow. i get all excited.

so i felt bad for the guy coming all the way out to where i live to see a jeep that wont crank. so i decided to go buy a new ignition cylinder for him to eliminate the screwdriver thing. sooo i slip in the new AC Delcoe ignition cylinder. and of course the key was in the wrong position when i put it in i think, so now the ignition cylinder is off track and now i can turn the key and it doesnt do anything. which means the jeep ignition is stuck in the off position so now i cant crank it again. an i think i half to pull the steering wheel out to get the ignition cylinder back out if im not mistaken. so if anybody has details how to get the ignition cylinder back out it would be greatly appreciated so i can sell this curse and buy another one :D

It does not want to go.
Keep it.:)

haha its being so mean to me i might push it out into my swamp and and use it as a duck stand haha

It's your Jeep, do what you will. It would be kind of a shame, don't you think?? They are a lot more fun when they run.
If you are in over your head, bail out, you won't be the first. see if you can find someone that will take care of it.
If the customer could not figure out how to start a 78 CJ with out a key he would have been over his head too. It'd just as well.

Your Cj does not hate you, it just does not respect you, you should have never taken it home after the first date.

if you let it go it sounds like it might come back lol.

Some cj's are like women, they like to make your life suck but they don't want to leave either.

haha im not in over my head at all. and we didnt have time to try to get it going when he came to look at it. and im not bailing out at all im just selling it to purchase my ultimate goal. this CJ5 was just another step in my wheeling and dealing. i started out with a gocart and maybe $AMC 150 and my next step is finally my ultimate goal ill be looking for a CJ7 in a price range around $7,000

After messing up the ignition, I would have just hotwired it. You only need about 20 seconds in a 78 Jeep.

You ever try to throw out a cat that does not want to leave? Same thing with a CJ!!

well i thought about it but i figured now i have a good excuse to learn about steering columns. got a steering wheel puller and a pressure plate compressor and tore it apart put it back together and its all good now. haha

Now that's a cj owners attitude.:chug:

and thats one less thing that needs attention.
Why would you want a 7 when you can have a 5?

Unless your 6ft 3in tall like me....I went to buy a 5 one day and hit my knee on the steering wheel my butt on the door opening and the guy getting in it and the owner told me he had already cut the wheel tub to slide the seat further back:mad::laugh::laugh: So now I have a CJ7

you will have to try mine some day. It has the correct seats and the tilt wheel is that much more room. I can see where a 7 would be good, more room and a smoother ride.
but I still love my CJ5 .

yea i like to hop in a jeep and go play but when i had a CJ5 you can forget about the "hop in" part haha cause more than likely your gonna hurt yourself. glad we are on the same page :chug: so now i have a CJ7 too

CJ's dont hate. They are just letting you know who's in charge. They want your repsect and care. Thats all.

yea my new CJ7 is already doing this too. i buy it and go to take it of the trailer and the ignition coil EXPLODES and blows :dung: everywhere. ended up paying $21 on a new coil
