timing chain gear

When the weather warms up I will be replacing my timing chain/gears. When I remove the timing chain cover off my 1984 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l straight six engine block (CJ7 -Laredo ) which timing gears will I see? (see picture attached)

I am shopping online and see 1st) product with 8 holes in the big gear and the second product with 3 holes in the big gear. Also I see one of the small gears looks like brass on some websites but could be for a another engine model, I believe?

Looking to buy the whole kit, since everything needs replaced. Last question, any favorite brand or and brand to avoid with this product?

id try advance auto parts locally first, never know if you dont ask and if they have it there will be a physically accessible warranty for defects in the product.

I would go for the first one, and it is not brass. The second one appears to have the nylon main gear insert, which is quieter but in my opinion will not last as long. The oem gears did have the nylon insert, btw.

cloyes or melling come to mind.Just changed the set in my 4.0 on TJ.Ordered cloyes online,take your pick on suppliers you like. mike s.

Only advise I can give is NO omix ada, forget what I put in mine but think Crane same as the cam.

I'm rebuilding my AMC 304 and the the guy doing the machine work on my block HIGHLY recomended using a double roller chain. I guess the roller chain holds oil better and have less friction because of the rollers. It will last longer. They come with iron or steel sprockets. Iron is fine. Steel is stronger. It is ment for cams that are pushing against strong valve springs.
