Hi fellow jeepers!

Just wondering what everyones thoughts, experiences on using seafoam in an old AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine?

Background:
PO beat the $$#$# out of my now hot pink jeep.. The stock carter carb 1 bbl --was barely working. the engine had a lot of vacuum leaks, carb choke was gone. etc..

Specs:
I have a 1976 CJ7 with a old AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l i6 engine. and a new 32/36 weber carb. Problem is when i installed the carb I saw a lot of carbon build up in the intake manifold. Also, when I start the jeep black carbon spits out of the exhaust at first start.
Please let me know if you've had good or bad or indifferent experiences using seafoam to clean the carbon out of the intake manifold, off the pistons, etc...Did you experience any issues since using it. Does it actually work?

Hope to hear from our great jeep minds..soon... (that wasn't too cheesy.. I hope)

I've tried them all and seafoam is the only one that I think works. I keep a can in my truck and dump about half a can every other tank or so.

On an older engine, there is carbon build up on the valves and combustion chambers. That stuff does get hot and will preignite, Seafoam helps clean it off. BK44G and Techron are other good additives.

:agree: Seafoam works great...run it for a couple of tanks to really get things cleaner.

Thanks guys for sharing your experiences. I think I will go ahead and try seafoam as soon as I can get to the auto store.

Hello everyone. I am still learning as much as I can as a CJ rookie. I am also looking to do this, however I have a TBI. I have seen posts on other forums suggesting adding the seafoam directly through the TBI. Has anyone had any experience with this or suggestions about how much/procedure? I am planning on replacing the oil pan and rear main seals this weekend, would it be beneficial to add some seafoam to the engine prior to draining it in order to clean it out? Thanks for the time

Seafoam is a fuel treatment. Why do you need to service the TBI? Put the Seafoam in the gas tank. 1oz to gal of fuel.
Marvel Mystery Oil is used in engine oil to loosen up gummed lifters and such.

I have run 5 oz of seafoam in my engine oil (along with most of a bottle of Marvel MO, a quart of Transmission fluid, and a bottle of Rislone oil treatment) and while I cannot tell you how much good it did specifically, it didn't seem to hurt anything. I also ran a can or 2 in the fuel as well. My particular engine, which smoked like a freight train and was heavily carboned as well, seems to have quit smoking (mostly) and seems to be running fine. I had taken the head completely apart and manually de-carbonized it before this treatment. I ran all this stuff mainly trying to free stuck rings, which it does seem to have accomplished. I cannot "prove" what any of this stuff did, but it does seem to have helped and has not hurt anything that I know of. FWIW, YMMV.

Additional disclaimer: I would not necessarily advise anyone to duplicate what I have done, because I may be completely clueless and just got lucky.:D
