Trans swap clutch selection.

I just ordered some parts to get me going on swapping out my T-150 /Dana 20 for an NP435 and Dana 300 . Question is, what is a good durable aftermarket clutch to go with. There won't be any severe technical rock crawling or extreme off roading. Just trail riding, camping, off road mil spec trailer is in the future. Engine swap in the future also. Currently a AMC 304 , will be a 360 or 401 if I can find one. 33" tires and 3:54 gearing. Don't plan on altering those at this point. Want to get a feel for gearing after Transmission swap to see where it's at. Just not sure about the clutch at this point with swap to the 435.

I've always had good luck with the LUK clutch kits from NAPA.

I've always heard good thing about Luk also. My cousin replaced his last year with a Luk (AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l /T-176 ) and hasn't had any issues. And that's what I'll be going with while I have my Transmission out for a rebuild.

The NP435 and T-150 both have 1-1/16", 10 spline inputs, so a factory replacement clutch will work for you. I believe the Luk p/n is 01-015 and they're around $100 online. You will need to use a conversion pilot bushing (like from Novak) instead of the bushing in the kit.

When I first replaced this clutch, I went to oriellys. They had two versions. One was a diaphram the other was a lever type. Are the LUK clutches the same way? Mine took the lever style, three arms I think.

I was looking at the centerforce, they have three different levels. Low end wasn't pruced too bad if it's as advertised. I'm just trying to budget everything in if possible. I'll a hard look at the Luk first.

Put a LUK clutch into our 79 CJ7 w/AMC 304 2 years ago. I do some rock crawling, and it works flawlessly. $87.79 + $10.99 shipping where I live, from Rock Auto.

When I purchased a Centerforce 2 for my T-18 addition, I had to buy the pressure plate separate from the disk and the input bearing came with the advance adapter kit. I have heard a lot of guys are happy with the LUK clutches though.

Sounds like Luk is a good way to go then. I have some ordering to do here in the near future.

I plan on getting the pilot bearing through Novak along with the conversion kit. I'm just trying to figure my way through on what I'll need. I am just going to get a rebuild kit for the Transmission and Dana 300 . Probably don't need it but it has to come apart to get the new output shaft in anyways. Transmission mount, pilot bushing, clutch kit, 4:1 lo max gear kit( still thinking on that one). I already orderd my twin stick and boot.

It was my understanding Luk made clutches for Centerforce.

Ok. Have a question. The LUK clutch kit is a 10 3/8 clutch disk. It is also a diaphram clutch. The stock one I have now is a lever and 10.4" disk. Can I still use the LUK 10 3/8"? I'm ordering today.

There is only .025" dia difference between 10.4 and 10 3/8.

Thanks LG, I didn't know for sure if there were anymore differences related to the diameters. Just wamted to make sure it would fit before ordering. They kind of make it confusing for us mathmatically challenged.
