Also the 999, new process, and so on.......
Did those come in the CJs? There is nothing wrong with a Wrangler (that a round headlight conversion won't fix) but thats getting out of the scope of JEEP-CJ.com (IMHO of course...)

Oh! you are correct! I beleive the New process stuff was later. I do beleive the 999 was available. Thank you for correcting that and you are right this is "CJ" site. thats why i love it!

X2 on the T-18 exploded few.

Note: the CJ T-18 had a 4.01 first gear until the changeover in 76 to 6.32

Note: you can bolt up a Scout Dana 300 to a Jeep T-18 but you will need the bull gear.

Hey Jeepers .
can someone tell me the difference between aT18 and at18A??.

I forget which is which ,but I can tell you that one has reverse up and first gear down. The other has the 1, 2, 3, 4 (H) and reverse down.

Hey Jeepers .

The T18a is the bigdaddy of transmissions. It has a 6.69 first gear vs the 4.89 or something first gear of the regular T-18 . I'm currently looking for a T18a so I can have the granny low. A lot of rock crawlers love the T18a because of the first gear, then mate that to the Dana 300 and you have a great crawl ratio. I'm prob wrong on the first gears exactly, just woke up and don't feel like looking it up but the difference is the 1st gear. You need an adapter to put the T18a and Dana 300 together unless your lucky enough to find a Dana 300 out of a scout they are supposed to bolt right up.

The T-18 -A has a 6.32 to 1 first gear I believe. I was lucky enough to find one for sale from a guy parting a 79 CJ5 .

Hey Jeepers .

The T-18 has a first gear of 4 to 1
T18a is much more sought after and has the granny low of 6.3 to one.

I'm that lucky guy. I have a T18a 6:32 first gear hooked up to a Scout Dana 300AKA TC146 The Scout Dana 300 was in the 1980 Scout behind a T19 you need the bull gear off the T19 to make it work.

I have an 1984 Jeep Scrambler, with a ford 5.0 bolted to original Borg Warner T-5 . Need to replace the Transmission . Can anyone tell me where to get a used T-5 or is there another Transmission that will bolt up or adapt with minor changes. also does anyone know where to find a new floor pan for scrambler. thanks lee

a T-5 is not the best tranny and not that strong. Try advance adapters.

I would guess you either have a T-4 or a T-176
The difference is where the shift lever comes out of the tranny.
Does it look like this T-4 with an aluminum case:

Or is it like this T-176

Notice that the top plate of the T-176 has the shift lever on it. The top plate of the T-4 doesn't have the shift lever. Instead the shift lever is back on what looks like an adapter at the rear of the tranny.

Thanks for the information I believe that have the t 176 because when I checked oil level the shift was just above the level hole in the case, also the case was cast iron. I bought the jeep at my camp and left it there because its not road worthy yet. The camp is 125 miles away and I cant get id numbers off the case to id for sure. untill I go back up. I left food in the jeep and hope the bears dont get at the seats. Thanks again Jack D. aka davenportknives.com
