I have a 1977 CJ7 that currently has a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and a T-150 -3speed Transmission . I am putting an AMC 360 in my Jeep and keeping the three speed since I like it. My question is what clutch would be best, my current AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l or should I upgrade I the AMC 304 clutch since it is designed for a V8.

Also prior to the motor going in I am going to upgrade the rear end to one piece axles, and do a tranny rebuild which will include a new clutch.

I think you should go with the V8 clutch.

How much time is on the current clutch, pilot bushing, and throwout bearing? You'd hate to go cheap now and have to pull it all apart in a year after living behind the new found power of the 360.

I ordered a new clutch today. With the new motor it was getting a new clutch regardless. Also going to go ahead and do a tranny rebuild while it's down.

As mentioned, same clutch. I would make sure you change out the pilot bushing most come with the clutch kit. I use a tap for easy removal, out in 30 seconds.

Side note: PO installed the bushing, broken is how I found it.
