I have a stock 1985 CJ-7 with 258 inline 6 engine 4 speed amc 20 rear diff. with 2.71 gear ratio.
1967 Camaro convertible. (for sale).
2001 F-250 Crew cab, 7.3 diesel.
2005 Honda TRX 350 EX quad.
Well, I decided to buy a hard top and doors for my 85 CJ7 . I have the original soft top on it. The zippers are not in very good shape. Some of the stitches are coming apart on the top. I figured a hardtop would be nice in case I have to drive it this winter. I'm in central Indiana. Snowfall can be pretty unpredictable.
I got a pair of nice doors off of a friend for $200.00. They must be off of a 76-81 CJ7 . They have the chrome L shaped handle instead of the square recessed handle. That's OK.
Craigslist had several available for under $450. and less than 3 hours away. By the time I got a day off and ran them down, they were all sold.
I think I want to put a YJ top on it. I researched the tailgate fit issues here and I think I have several good ideas how to make it latch.
I guess I'll have to wait for some more to show up on Craigslist and be ready to jump on them. It looks like a good top will run at least $500.00, CJ7 or YJ.
I probably picked a bad time of year to find a top. Looks like there are a lot of other people buying.

I get calls every day for tops for the Jeeps, especially the YJ and CJ7 ones. You are correct, this is the wrong time of the year to find one. Everyone has enjoyed their Jeep all summer and now that the weather has turned, they are out in force looking.
Good luck with your search, I hope you can find one that works for you! :)

Well, I got pretty lucky. I bought a YJ hardtop for $400.00. It must be a 1987 top. It has latches and a handle like a CJ. I didn't know they ever made YJ tops with latches on the back glass. I know it's a YJ top. I had to cut the inner lip and weatherstrip off of it so it would function right with my CJ tailgate. Green doors are off of early CJ. Sure made a difference. I'm ready for a blizzard now.

I was going to put pics up but I'm having trouble figuring it out. I went to FAQ and searched. It told me to go to USER CONTROL PANEL, click on PICTURES AND ALBUMS LINK. I can't find "pictures and album link".

Yj tops have vents behind the side mirrors. Yours sure looks a Cj top. Mine is and it looks just like it.

And I just gave one of these away cause it had been sitting in my garage for 3 years and I don't own a 7 anymore

I have vents. I lightened this pic so you could see them.

Here's a pic of the right latch. The left side also has a black plug. I think it has 4 prongs. I have a dome light above the hatch.

I use photobucket to host all my pics. Its just something Ive always done and for me its easiest.

My latch looks the same but that liftgate is something Ive never seen. Its like a C/Y/J hardtop. Guess it doesnt matter as long as it keeps you warm. :chug:
