Other then making my own..... who makes the best valve cover gasket for the 77 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l shes leaking. anybody have a link for a great gasket. thanks. i realize i can get any run of the mill gasket and with GOOD gasket maker i can seal it up. just wondering if anyone has found the, "holy grail valve cover gasket":notworthy: thanks.

Dan, for me I think the answer for a good valve cover seal is a cork Fel-Pro gasket and most important, getting all contact surfaces clean with gasket sealer on all of them also.

This is just me but I don’t blame the gasket per say for the leaking, I blame the valve cover and/or the installation. Often the valve covers are warped (just not flat) after being removed or tightened a few times and if you have a plastic one pick up a replacement. The issue is to get the all of the oil off of the edge of the head before install. I use lacquer thinner to make sure it’s clean but I’m sure other here have some great alternatives too.

so use only the form-A? i'v never heard of it?

I'v had good luck with The right stuff from Permatex. Iv made gaskets on my oil cap, sealed the dipstick tube, and the cap on the dip stick itself, fuel pump block off, I'll guess LG you've used the Form-A for a number of years..
what steps did you take with the Form-A
What about The right stuff?

My valve cover is just now starting to leak after 4 the rebuild. at the Back. it seems like the rear main also......but i cant tell for sure its a funny spot. In the back of my mind i hope its the rear main then i have do the 4.0 head:drool: thats my logic anyway:cool:
