Vicki's 81 Cj7

OK my Cj has a build thread set up for when it arrives on the 16th. Starting around the beginning of October Vicki had her eye on this one already. At that point he was asking $5000 and I thought that was steep. As time went on the price dropped $4800 , $4500 , $4200 , $4000... That's when I stepped in and started asking questions. This one has a rebuilt AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l as well as a rebuilt T-5 along with the stock Dana 300 .

Figuring it was worth a look we took the almost 3 hour drive to see it. The Cj has some full steel doors and a black hardtop with blown out windows. Along for the ride was a bikini top , wind jammer , tonneau cover setup. When we drove it I just couldn't get full throttle. When we got back from the test ride I figured out why. At one point the factory end came off the accelerator cable. Along with that the pedal was bent up not allowing it to pull the cable as far as it should. Turning the Weber carb linkage by hand gave me full throttle and I was satisfied.

The body was as advertised , no rust whatsoever and one damaged corner on the tub. While I was looking at that the owner was watching from in the house. We go inside and I let him know about the pedal issue. Then he lets out the deal maker for me. He is a teacher at the local Vo-tech and says if I can wait till after the Holidays he'll get the tub fixed and the Jeep repainted. $3500. Not really thinking about a build thread. New wheels and tires and possibly a automatic Transmission swap. Here it is before being repainted. The color will stay the same.

After going through this a few times I've seen better Cjs go for less money around the Holidays. I'm guessing people just can't figure out how to fit them under the tree.

Yeah jump in and drive is definitely a first

It has a couple little things I don't like though. They used a Yj tub and converted the Yj tailgate to a fold down. I'll buy a proper Cj tailgate. The windshield frame and grill aren't up to par with the rest of the Cj either. He's going to give me the left over paint and I'll have replacements sprayed and I'll install them. It is a real nice Jeep though. I'll get alot more pics when it gets here

It doesn't happen often around here and I have to give Vicki all the credit. She found it and never lost sight of it till the deal was made.

I hope their paying attention in class lol. It was painted there before. Other than a couple things spots it doesn't look bad. Color wise it'll stay the same.

Good man Pete. I'm not sure everyone realizes it or not , but as a Jeep Cj guy (or gal) you are mandated to go look at and consider buying Scramblers as they make themselves available to you.

That's pretty much what happened. I was done buying Jeeps after the 2nd one. I even had a post up on the Scrambler board that I've spent all my money on one Scrambler instead of 2 Cj7s. I've been Jeepless since the engine puked in my black one early last Summer. Couldn't take it anymore.

1 day after sending off the money orders for the Virginia Jeep this Scrambler pops up cheap in Maryland. Almost bought it then. Now it's about 20 minutes from my work and for sale. Gotta go look at it. If it's not a terrible project I'll find some way to grab it

That's ok about being broke, I've been a little broke for awhile also and I only have 1 jeep

Not really sure what happened here. Seems like the seller fell off the edge of the planet. Not a total loss but a bummer for sure. Luckily Vicki has taken to ( what was supposed to be my 81 ) the Virginia Jeep.

That's left me scouring Craigslist again. I ran across what I consider the Holy Grail of the SWB Cjs. I can't go see it in person till Thursday but if it's still there I will be more than happy to bring it home. Stay tuned.
