Warn 8274 Winch?

Warn 8274 Winch?
Hack - Thank you for the idea. ,,,,, On a totally different but related question. Front turn signals. The 8274 has a lot of volume on the right/passenger side of the vehicle which crowds the turn signal. Have you had any serious issues related having the view of your signals disrupted?

Every time I see that picture I start looking at my tubing pile and pipe bender. Yours looks nice and would be fairly easily done. Have you got any side pictures? I'm wondering about how much forward angle the middle section has.

And the winch plate is off to the powder coaters. Can't complain about the price for $40. I've used them before, they do excellent work, this is the best price they have ever quoted. I just might bring in my bumper. It might not be worth it though. Bumpers take the brunt of brush abuse. With the paint I used it is easy enough to squirt on a new finish from time to time.

Can't really say I've had any issues, but if my memory serves be correctly, I believe there was a turn signal kit available that added a couple lights. Might be something to consider.

That's good price. The place I use is a minimum of $80, because that's what he says it costs to turn his oven on. But they do a lot of commercial coating, and it's an oven the size of my garage.

Paint with a good, high quality industrial paint. There are a lot of single stage urethane's out there that would hold up well.

I bought the urethane for my trailer from these guys: Epoxy Two part resin - marine floor epoxy rot leak repair - 603 435-7199 anytime

But there is a good argument to using a rattle can. Most of my under carriage is done in good ol' Rustoleum semi-gloss black.

Engine paint works very well here. ;)

Hack - The guy has the largest oven in town. One of the things he specializes in is small jobs. As you mentioned the lowest price I've had before was $80. He's probably going to cook it with other jobs at the same time. He comes off as a grumpy SOB, but the thing is he's honest and doesn't play around. The deal gets even better, I had my ID on and since his wife works at the same company he dropped his price from $50 to $40. Payment in cash due when I'm satisfied with the end product. Can't complain about that.

To finish this up, The winch plate turned out very well. It's been installed along with the winch. A very tight fit, but nothing is hitting anything and the winch works. I wanted to load up some pictures but Photobucket seems to be having some troubles. Will load them ASAP.

Great news.
Looking forward to seeing the pictures.
Did you have it powder coated or?

Okay ..... Look at what I found on my CJ this morning:

Old H-F Winch Plate:

Modified Plate:

My Warn "W":

That's a lot of cable:

It works ..... I'm happy with it ...... You can't exactly see it but while adding plate, I also removed a lot of extra weight by removing the plate area under the winch and notching the front of the new plate. All in all the plate felt lighter than the original H-F configuration.

Edit: I swear the bumper doesn't look nearly as dirty and scared up in real life. Pictures show things yo never see in real life.

:) Its a silly thing, but I really like my Warn "W". It's 1/4" steel cut from scrap removed from the original plate.

WOW-That really came out GREAT!
I wouldn't worry at all about the front turn sig. lights.
Let me know if you ever make any more of those "W's". That's sharp look'n!!

The turn signal is "close enough" now. When I first made the modified plate there was about 4" more plate on the right hand side, it completely covered the signal. It was upsetting, but once I settled down with a long blade on the Saws-all it was easy enough to remove the angled side plate and cut away the extra 4" from the front plate. The "W" was fairly easy to make. Warn in it's infinite wisdom made their logo with a no serifs and straight sides. A couple angles and a couple triangle pieces cut away and wham ... bam ... a "W" is born.

Edit: Eventually I intend on relocating the control box under the hood. The "W" is to give the front plate/winch identity and a little color.

Lumpy - What size would you like?

Why move the control box to under the hood?

At first I thought it would open up additional air flow for the radiator. I'm not so sure now. Also the cover is rather scratched up from brush and such, I thought it would protect it a little. Since the short top wires/cables are a little sun damaged I might order some replacement cables and a new control box cover.

Just wipe the box with some Armor-All or paint it.
You'll still have the motor in front of the grill, even with the box gone.
Really looks good, as it sits now.

That one is the same size as the stock "W" on the control cover.
