Warn Winch - Draining Bat?

Warn Winch - Draining Bat?
The alternator should have 2 wires that are 12 volts. It gets ground from the mounting bolts. If you grounded one of the wires on the alternator it sounds like that's your problem.

if the winch is suspect, disconnect it. see if the battery still drains

if it does not, do a continuity check on the winch with the leads disconnected put the tester from hot to ground, if you do not get a Zero reading then the winch is bad

I mean why do all the rest of this work if we do not know if the winch is any good

Just me, guess I am lazy, but I would hate to do a ton of work if I did not need to

Had alternator checked. Only putting out 11v. So bad.

Busa the plate was the ground attachment for the external voltage regulator. Makes sense about ground being through bracket... :p

Baja yes winch suspect for power drain. Will do test as u recommended. Have it disconnected now... Just working on getting alt charging now

If winch is failing test i will look closely at the possibility i got the supper easy color coded 3 wires crossed  before contacting warn /4 wheel parts... (think thats where ordered from...)

Thanks all.

Mine has 4 wires. Output, field, input, and external voltage reg ground.

Well i finally got the jeep charging. Apparently it hasent been since put ignition upgrade up. Ill show a wiring diagram tomorrow.

Winch is unhooked... Going to tackle it tomorrow. But assume it was never the problem.
