I have an opportunity to buy a 76 CJ7 with a fiberglass tub but not complete.
AMC 304 runs strong and purrs, clutch low but owner says he hasn't adjusted it, it does not slip when I got on it, no heater, no top, comes with original metal doors, new seats as well as original, two bikini tops, stock rims but will need tires by winter. Other then that it runs and drives good. His asking price is $5,500.00 but I figure 900.00 for a soft top and 300 for the heater to make it complete. I don't know what the tub does to the price?

Well, for one the glass does not rust of course. I have seen glass crack as it gets older since it is constantly drying out. Just don't bang it against the rocks to help things out. So I would say it should not affect the price unless it really looks good.

For Scramblers, it drops the market price quite a bit. So low in fact that I could buy one!!! As I was not looking to do a resto and planned to use it as a DD, that was fine with me. I do not want to do body work.

I've got a glass tub on mine. For me it was a plus since I'm in Maine. It's quite rugged and I've banged it pretty good without issue and if you do have troubles it's super easy to fix.

Wooly

I have glass on my CJ5 since 1993 and the Scrambler as well. I prefer it because of living in New England but I would love to have a clean metal bodied Jeep again someday.

Opinions are like rear ends, they say.

I'd say fiberglass would significantly decrease the value of a cj for me. If the tub lacked a tailgate I would not consider purchasing a cj period.

I probably would not consider any glass tub cj because I have read plenty of threads talking about quirks the tubs have in fitment and shape that have to be overcome and shaped. I don't trust anyone's ability to fab anything when it comes to modified jeeps so I'd be very leery buying one someone else had to do extensive fab work to.

What I'm saying is I'm cynical and I'd very much pass on a fiberglass tub in most cases.

I have heard horror stories about fitment as well. But I must be super lucky about mine. Fitment has been great about everything. My only issue has been grounds. And my 8 does have a tailgate.
