What idiotic thing did you do with your CJ

What idiotic thing did you do with your CJ
YUP-sure does as my welder's POS(+)is attach'd to the GND clamp.
I only run .035 flux-core wire in my Lincolin, Weld-Pak 100.
This has been one sweet welder and has seen some heavy use over the years.
This welder runs well off my 2 Honda generators at 4K watts, also.

Naw neee na nee na na :) I win, mine is a Weld Pak 140 .....:) ............ :( maybe I don't win, the 140 might not run off a small Honda Generator welder worth a darn.

The 140 is a great welder-If mine ever dies, it's what I'll get. Your 140 would run well(I've run'em)off my Honda gennys.
The 100 was a gift about 16 yrs ago. I have it on a dedicated 20amp circuit in the garage.

Lumpy, switch the leads and weld something you don't really need. You'll see a difference in the splatter most likely. Mine trumps both of yours - it has a NASCAR sticker on it! Actually it is a Lincoln Pro-Core 100. :(

PB-I did just that, many years ago, and that's why I have it the way it is. One of many things I learn'd while taking a welding class at the local college :D
NASCAR sticker  :notworthy: :p
Looks like Lincoln has dropped the Weld-Pak 100, all together.:(
I've had mine since 1997..........

The worst thing I did to mine ...I didn't start it or drive it at all. Did help a guy with his wiring though.

OK, I feel like an idiot, but that is why I started this thread!
Today we were putting the finishing touches on our Jeep before the Colorado trip. I had the rear wheels jacked up off the ground, so I thought I would engage the E-lockers just to be sure they were working.
NOT!!!:bang:
Why??
We have them wired in a way so that accidental engagement is virtually eliminated since Eaton does not recommend engagement over 3MPH. A main switch has to be energized, then each individual rocker switch has to be turned on. Has to be electrical since neither one works.

Start by pulling all the wires out from under the dash :bang::bang:.
Everything there looks good!

Next, I crawl underneath to check that there is voltage at the plug going into the diff. Nope!:bang::bang::bang:

How the :censored: can there be power to both rocker switches, but no power to the plug? Well.....the prongs in the plug are pretty small, so I put a couple of safety pins in so that I could attach my volt meter. Power!!

That's a good thing! or is it???:confused::confused:

Why don't the lockers engage? No matter what I do, when I spin one rear wheel, the other turns in the opposite direction.

Then the wife, who did all the electrical on the lockers says to me, "do you have to turn the driveshaft first to engage the lockers"?

What?.............................................no way.....................................it can't be that easy. Besides, I'm a guy.................you know, "real men don't need instructions".........................
Dear? could you get me the installation instructions for the lockers?

Per Eaton instructions: Power up locker, hold one wheel while turning pinion, other wheel should engage. It did. :o

She even put all the wires back under the dash without even so much as one "I told you so" (at least so far!)
Oh well, I needed a good laugh after my blood pressure returned to normal! :D

I can not tell you how well you married. Congrats!

I can't say that any better so I'll just agree.

There is a younger man in her life. Maybe she just floats in on a cloud and says "sure I can fix your mistakes Dear".:laugh::laugh:

Had to cash in a few of my "I told you so's" on this one!

This last week I rebuilt my Dana 20 with a set of Terra Low gears. I was nervous at first, but with encouragement from the board members I dove in. Actually they were right the job truly isn't that difficult.

But, I was bound and determined to put EVERYthing in backwards, sometimes more than once or even twice. When the Transfer Case was finally fully assembled I ran through the gears and found the front gear wouldn't fully engage. The front shifting fork was installed backwards. WHAT! That was the very first thing to be installed. Everything had to come out to get to it. Even then the fork had to be clearance ground to clear the new gear. Errrrrr. One thing I can say, "Now I truly know how to work on a Dana 20 Transfer Case ." All in all I'm disgusted with the time it took to do the job, with that being said the outcome is pleasing. I even now know why its occasionally difficult to shift the front gear into 4wd.

Idiotic thing with my CJ.......But there are so many. LOL. One of my most memorable was with my first one, probably 30 years ago. I went to collage in a railroad town, and we would a lot of snow during the winters. Well, when it snows, and you and your buddies get bored, and you have a CJ, idiotic things WILL ensue..... Anyway, four of us were out playing in the snow, and ran up on a railroad crossing...... Hmmmmm - wonder if we can ride on the rails? We got the Jeep aimed down the track, hit the gas, and WOW - this is working - we're on the rails [emoji1]. About 60 yards down the track, here comes a train waaaaay out ahead of us. Ok, time to get off the track. Turn the wheel to the right, and that's when the fun started. I had the front wheels outside the rails, and the rear wheels between the rails. Since everything was cold and wet, that's as far as I could go - even in 4WD no joy - couldn't get of the track. It wouldn't crawl over em, and we couldn't get up enough speed to pop over em. Train's comin, air horns blowin, and we're rockin our butts off tryin to clear the track. I told the guys, one more try and if that doesn't do it, we're abandoning ship and gonna watch the train eat a Jeep. That last try did it, and we hauled a** outta there.

I haven't played on the tracks since. But there was a funny side. After we got back to the apartment, we noticed each seat had a big pinch mark in them....... LOL.

:laugh: I'm always glad to hear that I was not the only one doing idiotic things like this back in the day!

That first Jeep of mine really got a workout doing stupid stuff........ Mixing college kids with a CJ wasn't the brightest thing I've ever seen. We had gotten a really nice snow, probably 18" or so, and we HAD to see how much gas we could burn that night. We had been rompin' up and down the allies since they were still virgin snow, turned up one of the streets and saw at least 8 or 9 snowmen. In retrospect, we shoulda had out butts beat, but at the time it just seemed like the thing to do..... We would just ease up into the yard, roll over the snowman, and ease back out. All was well and good till the fourth one - stopped us dead in our tracks. Felt like they built it around a tall stump. We had to back up and go around. At least whoever built that one had bragging rights.
