The object is under the carburator inside of the intake on an AMC 360. I am assuming it is some sort of atomizer. The intake looks to be cast iron and I believe it to be oem. Tried to screw it out but would not budge and have not had the intake off to see if it attaches from the bottom side. It looks to be factory but could be aftermarket as well. Any ideas?? e6d02fa1d832f00f865535fd514c1008.webp

Looks like an aluminum intake to me, and I'm pretty sure the ball shouldn't be there.

What you are seeing is an aluminum adapter. I should have pointed that out. My apologies . The rest of the intake looks to be cast. The ball is made in there. What I am trying to figure out is it something the factory was experimenting with or is it one of the many gas mileage gimmicks that popped up in the 70's??

Looks homemade. I'd love to put one in my intake just to make the next guy wonder just WTH it is...... I have never seen anything in an intake like that, much less an aluminum golf ball........ I'm REALLY interested to see if anyone comes up with an answer.......

Flux Capacitor?

OEM factory mini me disco ball.

Whatever it is it’s not factory.

Sputnik ? It's been missing for awhile now.

Actually I was looking at the flaking paint on the manifold and it seems to be silver underneath the red which made me think it was aluminum.

It does look like it would help with atomization. Ok, I'm stumped.

Heres some more info. I looked up the serial number on the intake and according to another forum it is off of an 1970 AMC 390. Definately a factory piece as far as the intake go's. As for the stainless golf ball still do not know. 5afd097417155ea9cdf0a03dfe706b9f.webp

I don’t think that is supposed to be there, or it might be a plutonium reactor of some sort
