1974 CJ5, 304v8... purchased 8/8/11
I am converting from a fluid pressure oil sending unit to an electrical one...so I have to use a pipe threaded 3\8 adaptor in the block...would a non-hardening permatex (white) hold up with the heat and oil, or would a teflon type tape be better...?
Any suggestions?

without going into great depth about how pipe threads seal I would say it doesn't make a lot of difference which you use. the "sealant" is actually a lubricant that allows the threads to tighten easier and the actual seal is the threads in contact. I would go with the Permatex because of the remote possibility that it would offer a better ground for the electric sending unit.:cool:

Either one will work fine. I've used both and had no problems.

I prefer the permatex thread sealant.
 
Another vote for Thread Sealant "Paste", rather than Teflon tape, on electronic senders/switches.

Any quality brand is OK.
