On my '86 w/AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , there is an oem sensor of some sort tied into the oil pressure gauge sender. It has a red wire and a red with white tracer wire attached to it. So it either reads from the oil pressure or oil temp, I have not begun to trace down the wires to see where they go. Can anyone tell me just what this sensor is for.

Goes to your choke from what I've heard.

It's for the electric choke. It's a oil pressure switch that only allows power to the choke when the engine is running.

Thanks for the quick response guys, That will help me trace that down. It doesn't have a choke, but maybe tied into the f.i. system.

If it's fuel injected, it could be for the fuel pump. I know on GM vehicles, they use this switch to let the ECU know to run the fuel pump. The pump will run when the key is first turned on and when cranking. But during run, the ECU looks for a high signal from this switch.

I'm thinking it will make the fuel pump will shut off at loss of oil pressure, like, if in an accident and the engine is stalled. I will look at my wiring schematics in the area of the choke system for those wires and that sensor.
