1979 CJ-7 frankenjeep...?Chevy 283 or 327?...?Dana 30?...not sure on the transfer case
that would make it a 302..chevy used this combination available in the 67-69 z28's only..I had one built to the hilt in a vega bodied drag car years back..as quoted above this is a very fast reving engine capable of high rpm's.mine shifted at 9000 rpm's but I have heard of them turning 10,000..I would guess that odd's are this is not one of those but who knows..Hopefully its a 327...with a 283 crank...ohh yeah...both are quick revving bad behind motors IMO..let us know what you find out

Doubtful yes, maybe a small journal block though. I figured you would catch that! I had a punched out 283 in a 63 chevy 2 ..yep,muncie m21 and it was fast...anywho,I would pull the bowtie and get yourself a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ! Don't worry, I can pay for shipment of said bowtie so it doesn't get in your way:sly:

yeah,67 302 and other small blocks had the small journals..68 they went to the larger journals..mine was a large journal with a steel crank, pink rods,12 1/2 pistons, early model fuel injection type heads with 2.02's.It had the Duntoff 30-30 cam which is what chevy used when they set it's horse power ratings..mine was a hoss.back then pump gas was 103 octane but it ran it's best when I mixed it with av gasDoubtful yes, maybe a small journal block though. agreed, unless you were strictly competition mud bogging..they made their power way up on the rpm scaleI dont see a 900 rpm small block being very useful in a Cj. What kind of low end torque do they have?![]()
Yeah,I apologize if we hijacked it..But hey,if the guy is gonna run an old small block,he might as well get educatedLast I mention this continuation, feel like I have hijacked the thread. I havent heard duntoff in forever 30 30 offroad cam and double hump heads..when Holley didn't even make a good anchor for catfishing

that might be a good bet..most of the 283's and 327's had the oil filler tube in the intake..and most had a single curved arm to adjust the alternatorMy bet is that it is a plain old 350.Given the condition of the drivetrain, I seriously doubt anybody would put that kinda money in an engine and not take care of it and everything else. How about some pictures of the rest of the story (Paul Harvey) or should I say Jeep for you younger guys.
