so i'm looking to put new/ used tires on my jeep. thinking 31's whats everyone using? my jeep will mostly be used for street use but i want to be able to take it offroad and not worry too much. was thinking about the BFGoodrench tko's honestly just based off of how aggressive the treads look. i would like a nice all around tired.

You really arent gonna hear much bad about the bfg all terrains other than people that try to use them for stuff that they really need mud terrains. Great all around tire that rides smooth and lasts along time on the street while having decent performance off road. This is my personal experience as well as what I have heard.
I ran them on my CJ7 for a while in the 31x10.5r15 and they were great Only removed them to run a larger more aggresive tire because I turned it to more of a dedicated trail rig

thats kinda what i wanted to hear LOL now i just need to justify spending the money on new ones.... i'm a cheap ***

When I pulled my set off they had a ton of miles on them an they were all still in great shape, even wear, and tons of life left. and I think theyre less than $200 a tire new, in the31x10.50r15, not too bad IMO.

Like the others I went with Big O's X/T 31's. These do great on the highway and handle 97% of the mountain trails around here. The other 3% I wouldn't try anyway. Also included free replacement for any kind of damage...including sidewall punctures.

I wouldn't recommend them to you but since you asked I'll tell you.
I run 36 inch Bias Ply SuperSwamper SX tires and I love them. So why wouldn't I recommend them to you? Because you are more worried about street use. These are very tough, aggressive tires. Bias Ply tires have plenty of flex for off-road use without letting rocks puncture them.
These traits that make them great off-road make them lousy on the street. The flex I like off-road make them handle poorly on road. Bias Ply isn't used for any tires anymore except for serious off-road or for construction equipment.
The main purpose of my jeep is trail rides. But I still use it to get to the trails.

Okay, okay, I realize I'm giving you a lot of information you didn't ask for. More to the point, when I bought my CJ5 it had BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires (radial of course). These were great tires on and off-road. The Mud Terrain is as tough as the All-Terrain. The difference is the tread. I highly recommend the All-Terrain T/A KO for what you are using them for.

You might be able to save a few dollars by going with a cheaper brand but let me tell you a story.
For years I drove my CJ5 over the roughest trails and sharpest rocks.

But then one day the inevitable happened. While out on the trail I got a puncture on the sidewall. I put on my spare but it wasn't a BFG. It looked similar in many regards but it was a cheaper brand. Two months later I got another flat. And then again a few months after that.

I had 3 fricken flats WITHIN ONE YEAR! Each time it was while out on a mountain trail. But it was always the left rear that had a cheaper brand. When you are off-road away from civilization you want reliable equipment. My BFG Mud Terrain were the older style. They didn't make them anymore. I didn't want to buy a new BFG that didn't match the other 3. I tried to find a used BFG and in the mean time I kept buying cheap BFG-wanaBe's. I finally said enough is enough and bought 5 matching SuperSwampers.

These BFG All Terrain tires are great on and off-road. That's what I highly recommend. :D
:chug:
BTW if you look through my gallery you will see a lot of pictures where my left rear tire doesn't match the others. Those pictures were shot during the frustrating year of my BFG tire search.

My M/T MTZ's have been good on/off road tires but they are probably more aggressive than what you need.

I run Firestone Destination M/T in a 31/10.5
I love these tires they are great off road and in the mud and work great in snow. I have wore a set out and never had a flat I will be buying another set soon.

I am using 31 inch Goodyear Duratrac's. Great tire.

I've had a set of the bfg's and they ran great but were a little pricey IMO . I'm currently running a set of 36" bias iroks and i love them.

I'm running Goodyear MT/R's with Kevlar. So far they are wearing good on road. Compared to my previous tires, these really work well off road. 33x12.50x15.

<-BAD WORD-> Cepek Crushers 33x12.50 R15 on vintage Renegade slots. I run 20lbs air street, 8lbs Offroad, yet to slip a bead.

At the end of my build I'll be getting new tires. I have one new one that was my spare but I'll get a set late spring (hopefully). They are Mastercraft Courser MT's. I've been running courser AT's and CT's on the wife and I's Armata and Ram p/u for years, but back in the late 90's my buddy bought their predecessor, Courser OTD's, which are now just the MT's with a slightly different lug shape; for his Jeep. My wife bought his Jeep a couple years later, had it for a few years then sold it to her cousin, who then did a glass tub resto and sold the tires back to me. They are 33x12.5's and I replaced my 31x10.5 Wild Country's (an awesome tire but discontinued) with them and ran them till Oct.2011 when I tore down the Jeep.
They were great tires off road in snow and mud and wore very well on pavement. So I figured I'd stick with them which I can buy locally for $206 ea

There's a review of them at Mastercraft Courser MT Tire Reviews

Compared to the old:

I am running GY Kevlar MTRs. They are awesome in the woods and have been great on the street too. Very quiet. Just as quiet, if not more, than the Wrangler A/Ts I had before. They are 33x12.5x15. :chug:

I'm running the BFG A/Ts 31 x 10.5 x 15 but off road use only with no mud. Very happy with the performance.
