Which transmission do I have..... TH400????

Which transmission do I have..... TH400????
Now, I just need to figure out which wires attach to the Transfer Case switch on top... (emergency/4wd light on speedo... if not... Any ideas? :)

CJ's don't use that switch but it would go to the 4WD light in the Speedometer.

Mine looks like the one the pic you posted but the larger tube like "pipe" is not there.

I circled in red the 2 square head bolts in your picture above. I think they are the same 2 square head bolts circled in red in the picture below. It looks like the picture above still has the tubular bar sticking out from where the 2 square head bolts are. The tubular bar (in focus) is behind the 2 shift rails (out of focus).

Also the shift mechanism that I circled above in blue above is the same part I circled in red below.

Make sense?

Humm.. To my knowledge the larger tube is missing on my Transfer Case .. (Not the part you initially circled.. But the tube that goes into/connects to the shifter.. I will try to get pics asap...
Would you know what the "switch" is that I circled in pink? Is that my 4wd indicator light for the dash?

Thanks for your continued help:notworthy:

CJ's don't use that switch but it would go to the 4WD light in the Speedometer.

Now I am confused...

So, the circled-pink two prong "switchy-thing" on the Transfer Case is to be wired to the speedo 4wd light indicator??? One ground the other power? Or is the 2 prong switch just for looks?

Yes, that switch goes to the 4WD indicator in the speedometer but most CJ's don't use it. The only CJs that have that indicator light wired up are ones that have the QuadraTrac TCase.
The Dana 20 in my CJ (like most CJ's) doesn't even have that switch. If you don't want to connect it up that's fine.
If you do want to connect it up, connect one terminal to ground and the other terminal needs to be routed to the indicator light in the speedometer. The indicator light has 12 volts on it. If you shift into 4WD the switch will ground out and complete the circuit The light in the speedometer will illuminate to show you are in 4WD.

You can see the picture I posted doesn't even have that switch (just below the red circle). There is a hole with nothing in it. My Dana 20 Transfer Case has a plastic plug in there. As you shift, the shift rails have detents that activate your switch.

The purple circle is around the 4WD switch. CJ's don't have this switch and it looks like yours isn't connected. This switch will turn on an idiot light on the dash of a FSJ to tell you you are in 4WD.
THANKS!!!!!! I think I will hook it up... If I can figure it out.. Which it doesn't look too difficult... Thanks again EVERYONE for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Dave I know your talking about a Dana 20 Transfer Case and a older 76 but my 86 with the Dana 300 also has the 4wd indicator switch and light in the speedo. I know that is a 10 year differance. Is this some thing that was add to the Dana 300 , cause I see you have in () that most cjs don't, but the QuadraTrac ? Just wondering.
