Alright, started my CJ (AMC 304 dual exhaust) up today after it sat for a bit. I let it warm up for 10 mins or so. I come back out and see white smoke coming out the pax side muffler. Someone give me some guidance plz!!!! What I have read so far is maybe a bad head gasket. One other issue, once I shut her down, I can smell antifreeze.

thanks in advance,

AV

well you said it....it sat a while check your radiator is it low? check your oil is it milky? was it a lot of smoke or was it just I have been sitting for awhile and need to burn off stuff? also you can do a compression check on the clyinders to see if if you have a dead clyinder and take alook at the plugs to see if one is very clean, that would be the clyinder burning water :chug:

Thanks I will take a look at the radiator tomorrow. Oil is good, checked that just last week. It had sat for bout a week n a half, but didn't think it would still be burning off after 10ish minutes or so. It was a pretty consistent amount, but not bellowing like a camp fire.

Take a sniff of it or put your hand near the pipe and smell it.

Coolant gives a pretty distinct smell. Unless you have straight water in the rad.

Bummer. Now you just have to decide if you are going to figure out if its the intake/head gasket, or just go through the engine. It could be a cracked block but that is rare.

Yeah, going thru the engine right now isn't much of an option because of lack of space. Oye!

well, coolant level is good, but still get the coolant smell when Jeep is running and white smoke from the right dual exhaust. I figure I will be rolling it to the local Jeep shop to get it checked out.

Pull all your plugs and turn it over. If theres a head gasket leak, and water is getting in there, chances are you'll see which cylinder real quick.

Compression check is another good thing to do if you have a compression gauge.
