Who's the Best Auto Parts Store??
Used to use napa quite a bit, until the owner of the local store started doing some creative billing to my acount, I stopped using advance parts about 3 months after they came to town, I started finding the prices were different depending on who answered the phone, and I had a 95% failure rate on thier parts with in the first month. we dont have auto zone up here, so I cant say how I like them. I use Bond Auto Parts quite a bit, scince they're still family owned. But to be honest, scince becoming a crown dealer myself, I dont realy use the local parts stores much, scince I buy most of my parts factory direct, or from a warehouse distributer.

We have a NAPA,& Carquest in our town, Use to have a Motor Mart Federated.
Our shop uses NAPA for 90% of our parts.
We've had more than normal premature failure with NAPAs spinning electrical; Starters, alternators.
If i could, i would buy all spinning electrical from Federated Auto. They carry Worldwide brand, with a great warranty. Best of all, we hardly ever had pre-failure from Worldwide.

i think it varies by store and location the guys at my local advance are very knowledgeable they have the catalogs and know how to use them, and the manager around there knows his stuff. but i agree big chain stores seem to hire their fair share of dumbasses i guess im lucky.

seems to me that when guys that work there make a career out of the place they tend to know the business better, but the highschool kids, and chicks that work there its just a job like working at mcdonalds or something.

Hey I take offense to that;) I am a chick working at a parts store and the last *** that said "you're a girl so u don't know much where's the guys at?" I gave him the dumbest guy we had on the clock at the time.
Guess who ended up taking care of him?
Anyway I know most of my stuff I know how to search catalogs and when all else fails I call dalefan88 lol
But I agree it depends on the location and the people, we have our share of not so intelligent college kids and chicks working for us. Just don't assume we are all bad ;)

Hey MDF! :) I was wondering when you were going to see this thread... :)

I think that is an official OPPS
I think I know what he means though, at our local Kragen they have 2 girls there that are there for one reason only, they are young and speak Spanish, the Hispanic crowd goes gaga over them and go to the store over the parts place across the street which has all guys at the counter. And that crowd does seem to support a lot of older vehicles they work on themselves.
Now if I am in that store I try to avoid those two, I was asked to be helped by one last week and I asked for a pilot bushing, gave the sizes I need and she could not figure out how to get it if I did not tell her what vehicle it came out of. you know jeeps and conversions, I had the inner and outer sizes. Anyway it took 5 minutes of asking her to get a manager before he came up and asked what I wanted, so I told him, he grabbed a book and brought it part to me in about 45 seconds. and told me also a vehicle that used that size so I could get the correct one next time.
I noticed as I was leaving 2 Hispanic guys falling all over their shoes trying to get her to wait on them next.
Guess it is working even if she does not know her parts or where to get them from.
Now at our Napa, the woman who works there is a parts professional, can get a tranny mounting bracket for a 67 jeep CJ5 with a v6 and T-14 tranny and have it there by noon even if that vehicle is no longer in the compter.

she does know how to find parts. let me tell you i might get only 2 or 3 calls a week and its on oddball stuff i know from dealing with all the shops.

I like my Local Napa but the close early so sometimes I have to go to
who ever is open.

My favorite parts counter person is named Rhonda, She is very good at finding parts that can't be found and has no problem turning a page or two to find something that works in our "mix and match" world.
It is not a terrible thing that she is easy to look at.;)

I look up my own :dung:, with part #'s for every place in town, then I go get it from whoever has it.
I walk in and say do you have part# whatever.
Yes
Let me have it!

Congratulations!:chug:

I'm sure you are fully competent. I'm sure you pride yourself on doing a good job & like you stated, you can always call Dale88 on tough cases.
Though as with most stereotypes there are horror stories that breed them.
When I was just out of the military, I managed a Hi/Lo Auto supply.
I had the displeasure to inherit a female employee who had absolutely no interest in the job whatsoever. She sported a new quaff weekly & possesed a set of nails that she loved to file while leaning on the cash register. Her extremely long nails made it impossible for her to dial the phone without a pencil.
Then to top in all off, she had a habit of taking her smoke breaks just as the counter would fill up. I mean we have customers taking numbers & she stands behind the warehouse door looking through the window smoking a cigarette watching everybody else work!:bang:

I understand, I am the asst manager and i have an employee kind of like that, only its a guy so he doesn't have long nails lol i try to keep him off the counter as much as possible since the day he asked me "why isn't it listing an oil pan, I am under emissions and its not there anywhere" :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

:dung: i do forget to log myself in tho ~mrsdalefan

There's a female working at the NAPA I frequent. I don't mind when she helps me. she seems to know her stuff and she's a lot easier to look at than the guys behind that counter LOL:D

i'm not saying all chicks at parts stores are dumb just most of em (sorry if it offends but its the truth) now when i was in high school there was a red head named terry that worked at advance she drove a chevy orange 71 nova with 383 and big <-BAD WORD-> cowl hood her and the car was badass she knew her stuff. she was one of them chicks that spent more time in the garage with dad than at the mall with mom.

got to love those kind of women. not many of them out there. so happy my wife likes cars and racing. thats why we thought it would be cool to get married in bristol when we went there for a race last year.

Napa by far

I'm sorry I honestly think Napa is over priced, I Vote CarQuest or O'Reillys but its way more towards Car Quest because they have never let me down as where O'Reillys has and there counter personel here arent as knowledgeable as i'd like, but im thinking im going to go to O'reillys and grab me a 2 1/2 inch leveling kit for my truck.
