Winch with no bumper?

Got a Ramsey 8000lb winch as a freebie. Needs some small things. Do I need a bumper or can I mount it to the plate on the frame up front?

Fabricate a mounting plate that will bolt to the frame in front of the grill.

Another option would be to buy a Ramsey mount for the CJ, or at least look at theirs or a Warn mount to see how it is secured to the frame.

Make sure you mount it to the frame and NOT the plate. The plate is riveted to the frame and isn't especially strong or meant for the purpose of carrying a load.
