My wiring harness where it comes out of the black box on the drivers side under the hood- has some wires that have bad places on them- probably more than 50% of them.

Do you think I should just replace that instead of trying to fix them? A local guy that sells odd parts said he has one that would fit my jeep but he didn't give me a price- I have no idea what a decent price is on a used one anyway?

Also- is the wiring harness just the wires under the hood- because I have a total mess of wires under the dash- wires everywhere! I would love to pull them out. But I probably shouldn't I'm guessing? :D

I have another serious dilemma....

I have no cig. charger to plug my iphone into- I HAVE to fix this.

Can I just buy one a choose a hanging wire under the dash to hook it up too?;)

There seemed to be a few different ones at the part store- basic one and then a marine one.

No, I'm saying if you decide you want to replace your harness they are the least expensive way to get a great product.

I have a generic cig. lighter in mine for my gps. I just made a mount and have it under the ash tray. I used a wire that is always hot and used an inline fuse, but you may want to find on that is only hot with the key on it's up to you.

IF you decide to replace the harness go with a EZwire harness.. painless is really pricey. The easiest wat to check for a hot wire is with a 12v test light. hook the clampy part (girl lingo) to a rusy screw or peice of the body and then poke around at wires. for a 12v hot source you want to find one that has power when the key is off. I would not mess with under dash wires and would run a wire right from the battery to the charger. Make sure there is a inline fuse for it and ground the negative wire to a bolt or screw on the body. By doing it this way you can leave the phone plugged in and it will charge with the jeep not running. with it wired to be an ignition hot it will only be on when the jeeps key is on.
