Would Anyone Be Interested in Compass/Temp Mirror Setups?
I did this a few years ago. I have my temp sensor running all the way to the front bumper.

And how accurate is it? Do you get false high readings from the pavement in the summer?

It's pretty accurate. It takes a few minutes of driving to get a good reading.

But my bumper is higher up.

This is what I have in the CJ8 , I purchased it with the temp sensor and the pigtail. I really like it because it doesn't have any of the garage door opener or onstar junk. It also uses the existing mirror mount...

what was the make, model, and year of your donor.

what if you run the temp sensor inside the cowl vent? i was thinking about the heat from the radiator?

Well, a few things on that.
First your fan is drawing the air towards the engine so that will reduce the potential for ambient heat.

Also, through reading, it looks like gm thought about this and the computer in the mirror compensates for warm up x amount of minutes after it us started up.

The cowl vent would be a good location but if there is a built in correction to the unit, the stock location between the grill and radiator would be how I recommend installing it.

Alright boys and girls. I got 4 mirrors available.

I can easily set these up with custom lengths of wiring if you tell me how you want to run the wires.
Sorry - no selling in the forums, use the classifieds...

Kinda a fine line considering this is the same forum Jimbo has been using to price and maintain interest in his headlamp upgrade harnesses.

These are the prices I am thinking

Auto dim/Compass only
Comp/Temp/Auto Dim single display
Comp/Temp/Auto Dim Dual display

I will post what I have currently to the classifieds.

Since I haven't seen those post I cannot comment, if you wish to point me to them via PM you may do so.

Here is a pic of a suburban mirror comp/temp/auto dim on my CJ windshield.

How do you wire it? Just run it down to the fuse block? I wouldnt want to see any wiring so I guess run it through the windshield frame.

On mine that is how I am doing it I drilled a hole directly above the mirror mount. Got to snake around the wires which is a PITA. If you dont want to drill a hole in your frame then you could run it around the edge of the seal and hide it wil a bead of black silicon or something.

A note. The ones from the suburban will fit on the stock mirror stud but the stock one is slightly smaller so its not a great fit. I am going to switch my stud to one from a suburban.

The ones from the Saturn Vue will definitely require changing the stud on the window as the mount is much wider.

It needs a switch 12v source. For those with the later cjs, I was planning on soldering on a blade connector that would go in the slot labeled "cruise" on the fuse block. This is a 12v switched connection. I am not sure if it was on pre 82 CJs. For anyone that doesn't have that, essentially any 12v source can be tapped into this doesn't burn a lot of juice.

I pulled the vue mirror out this morning, and it actually fit on the stock mirror stud. I read on other forums that this was not the case, but I guess they were wrong. Again like the suburban the mount is a little wider than the stock stud so replacing the stud would be ideal but not necessary.

More pics of how the wiring is on mine.

I have cruise control in mine so I used the plug labeled radio to get keyed 12v power.

I was gonna put the sensor behind the grill but I found this random bolt in the frame and it seemed to be perfect for what I needed.
