Would you tear down a perfectly good CJ to build another? In times like these money is tighter than usual and you need to be more thrifty but still enjoy your hobbies. Lets say you have a perfectly good CJ5 with a great V8 driveline that you have owned for many years. All the brackets and small parts are in perfect shape but the body is starting to get worn down and may need some real work plus a bunch of other little things. Now you just got your hands on a Scrambler project but it needs a whole new drivetrain and all of those good small parts and you know you will never afford to register both Jeeps at once. Plus the Scrambler has been a dream Jeep to own before you die.

So would you personally tear down one perfectly good CJ to build another?

I guess it would depend on what I wanted under the Scrambler. I would most likely sell the CJ5 to finance the new build. I hate to see the old classics torn up. They are getting more and more rare. My two pennies

I think I would either take out the drivetrain and stash the 5 away for resto or sell it to get the scrambler drivetrain my 2cents

I would sell the scrambler and get a new body for the CJ5 .

I would tear down the CJ5 and build the Scrambler being its your dream Jeep. Anything not used from the CJ5 would go to Craigslist to fund the things you havent thought of yet.

^^^^^i agree with this^^^^^. but then again i really hate to see nice jeeps parted out, when there are crappier ones for that.

I'd sell the 5 to fund the 8s build, I think.

If you can do it, I would go this way. It all depends on how attached youare to the 5.

A little history about the 5. I have owned it for 20 years and for some reason I cannot ever let the title go to someone else. The frame is perfect but the 18 year old fiberglass body is on it's way out due to the firewall separating from the floor and after a repair job 2 years ago it came back even worse. I plan on keeping the remaining parts for that day when I completely regret tearing it down but I would love to own a stock 5. I think my trusty old machine can be rebuilt with the six cylinder from the CJ8 and the stock drive line after I find a worthy replacement body someday.

So it's not just metal and parts but it is a part of my life and not how I want it to survive anymore. Even if the frame sits for ten years the 5 will be born again but with a more stock and original appeal to her. Yeah my 5 is a chick.

Then I would say there is nothing wrong with moving the parts to the 8 and shelving the 5 for a while.
