Anyone here know what year the Yj tubs went to galvanized steel? Got a bunch of conflicting info on the web for sure. I thought it was 92. I could be wrong of course.

The Renegade has gone way down the rabbit hole. Tub wasn't really savable monetary wise. Going right for the frame off. It escalated quickly and I'm happy about it. Just need time to update the build thread

I thought the introduction of the YJ also introduced galvanizing. So that would be '87. The '87 sales catalog states the "body corrosion protection system" [has 5 layers] "2 sided galvanized steel, zinc phosfate, cathodic electrocoat, primer and baked enamel."

I was always told 94-95 however over the years it really comes down to how it was treated in life. All you need is a rust free one regardless of year.

I think TSB8C nailed it. I remember just a few years after buying mine in 84 and hearing that and thinking WTS AMC. Chrysler came up with a great idea

True. I think I did pretty good on this '92. The floors are dirty in the pics. There's some surface rust on the driver's side but no rot.

I thought it was pretty good for an East Coast tub from NY. Alot of disassembly and reassembly, cleaning and painting to be done but my tub was to far gone.

Couple more pics.

$500 and he threw in a folding seat riser for free. Pretty sweet deal.

That's a good deal. And clean for a North East tub

Galvanized rocks but, note: that there is special paint prep!
Not really. Just sand it (preferably down to bare metal don't remove the coating) then put a good two part epoxy on it. I prefer PPG products but to each their own. Avoid using an acid based metal prep.
