You know you own a CJ when...

From time to time I've been convinced I was getting good at securing things, then a bag opens up in the back, dumping the contents, then going for the circle ride around the driver and passenger seat. What gets me is the look of disgust on the face of other drivers when I loose the battle and a bag or napkin escapes into the environment. They never really know the valiant battle to save the world from random litter that just took place.

Owning a CJ is like a sailboat during a storm. If you don't batten down the hatches, everything is going to be blown away.

I remember driving my first CJ back in the 80's when cassette tapes were the thing - had a new hard case with every tape I owned sitting in the passenger seat...... with the top off....... took a left turn, the case continued on straight, and before I could stop, a car ran over it and destroyed the case and most of the contents. My first lesson in the 'CJ grab'.......

That made me cry! I have never lost anything like that. But i have often put something in the seat, thought about it, then moved it to the passenger floor boards.

I keep a towel between the console and the bulkhead. It will slowly crawl up and flap around. I catch it and shove it back down and under the seat.

This was me 3 weeks ago except it was the window with the broken zipper on the soft door...going 65, holding my window shut, with cars racing past on either side, getting blown around by high winds.

That was exciting.

Nobody looked at me like i was cool.[emoji19]

Defective door latches were easily fixed on our 59 CJ5 . A piece of bailing twine tied between the 2 doors with a loop and knot in between to tighten it.
No, I didn't drive it down the road that way, only around the pasture, but it did seem like a far better idea than using the slide bolts that the PO had installed!
We really need to finish the 79 CJ7 and get back to the 59 build

Defective door latches were easily fixed on our 59 CJ5 . A piece of bailing twine tied between the 2 doors with a loop and knot in between to tighten it.
No, I didn't drive it down the road that way, only around the pasture, but it did seem like a far better idea than using the slide bolts that the PO had installed!
We really need to finish the 79 CJ7 and get back to the 59 build

Don't forget Duct tape!
Gorilla tape is even better! I made some wheel flares out of some floor mats that were made out of shredded tires just to see what they would look like before spending a lot more money on some quality rubber sheet to make permanent ones. While trailering the Jeep to Colorado, the wind at 75mph began to tear the top edge of the floor mat wheel flares. I stopped, applied several strips of Gorilla tape, and headed down the road. 2 years and over 6,000 miles on a trailer and who knows how many road and trail miles, the Gorilla tape, although beginning to show wear, is still holding.
I really do need to make the flares more permanent! But then..............I still have an almost full roll of Gorilla tape in the tool box!

That's a great analogy. When I was a young teenager I went to school in a sailboat and 3 different times was caught up in some squalls and once wondering if I was going to have to swim for it.
