SO, I bought a bright Green Jeep. She seems to be okay with that color. Underneath things I find lots of different colors, on the body there is a lot of white. Two colors of bright green are nearest the top two layers. Under the Jeep, under the BIG white potato chip flakes there is dark green paint. This old girl has been around the block.
So for kicks I pull the paint code number and do the "look it up" thing. Oh the things you can find out. The Vin tag showed a "600" paint code. Cool! But-But-But, oh my god the code shows the paint to be
man I think I'm going to be sick. :barf: My bright green Jeep, with possible choices showing white, dark green, two colors of bright green shows that factory paint gun Number 14 shot ..... Copper paint on my Jeep. Copper paint .....
..... is that the awful darned near brown nothing paint I remember?
So, you might ask me, why do I really care? Well, the Jeep came with front fenders that don't belong. Again, why do I care? The replacement fender inners interfere with engine parts, to be exact, the air pump hits and hits hard. I have a set of real honest 1975 fenders that fit perfectly. After stripping several different colors off them and welding up 38 years of minor issues they are ready to paint. What color? Stock? Yes, I know this just might lead to a complete paint job.
